Flashing wrecnh and ECU code 17. (2008 M8)

Went SNOW MACHIN' up to Paradise in Invermere on the weekend (not a big fan of the place) and about 3 k up the trail, I noticed the wrench came on, and as soon as I stopped, ECU code 17: Failure in pipe temp. sensor.

I opened the hood, and the wire from the sensor was up against the pipe.
I zip tied it off onto the power valve cable, and no more wrench or code.... is the sensor wrecked or was this just a "check this out before your f*****!!!"
Sled works just fine, and the cable is not melted or anything...

The next day rode at Silent Pass... again, not a thing wrong with the sled, but the wrench would ocasionally come on until I shut the machine off and fired it up again.

What is this wrench, and will I need a new temp. sensor?

My 08 m1000 did the same thing. Flashing wrench, code 17, ran great. Dealer replaced the pipe sensor.

I went riding over the weekend with my 09 m8 and i had the same thing happen with the code. I talked to the dealer and he said that nothing would happen to bad it was just that the sensor needed to be replaced and the sled would richen out rather then run on the lean side. So i still had two days left in my trip and i wasn't about to stop riding and he even told me to ride it like i normally would. Of course warrenty had alot to do with me still riding it like that but my codes were constantly flashing at me and sled ran great for the rest of the trip. Now that i'm home going to take out to dealer and get replaced. Hopefully noting else is messed up. Good luck with yours!

Exhaust temp sensor failure. Make sure that the wire coming out of the sensor (on the new sensor) is looped back on itself and zip tied. The failure usually occurs inside the sheath, wire vibrate apart. We have found that the zip tie, just like the factory sensor, is essential to keeping the sensor living.:D

Haha alright thanks guys.

It's just coincedntal that my sled was in the shop before this ride, and as I look at the sensor now, it looks like the wore leading out of it is a little bit re-routed?

They were doing clutch work, so I don't see why this would need to be touched.... maybe they took the pipe off to make it easier to get at the secondary?

But I'll talk to them... Im not getting the 17 anymore, just the wrench every now and again, so once this Temp sensor failure shows up, is the sensor shot? And what do you think my chances of this being covered through warranty, because that bit isn't cheap is it?

Do you know if your pipe sensor was sending and Error message or a failure? mine was flashing and the way they talked it wouldn't be under warranty, because it was an error and not a failure...
