Hey guys, i just picked up a nice clean 07 d7 for my wife that is bone stock except for holz a arms. I know in the cat section, there are threads about must
do's but cant find one here. It needs front shocks and different ski's, what do you guys like? I plan on putting some venting on it and maybe a slp pipe kit, but that would be it as far as performance stuff for now. What gearing is the ticket for this sled?

If there is a link for this stuff, let me know......
Thanks.....MM

Great sled! Good Work! Fox zero pros and Gripper skis seem to get mentioned the most. SLP single pipe with MRPB can get a lot of talk. 19-42 gearing? Good luck and good sledding.

I'll second that just leave the stock Grippers on there. They are way better than most OEM skis. I prefer them over Powder Pro's as well.
19-42 gearing is correct.

spend some time browsing through the threads in this section and you will see a lot of info. Take a look at the Increasing your IQ sticky at the top of the forum.

That sled is not desperate for venting.... IF you have good clutching and your clutches and belts are the way they are supposed to be functioning.

Shocks on the front and the new front end kit would make the sled handle better for her with the new swaybar.

Get the handlebar height just right and the width too (often overlooked)

First off, thanks for the input so far. the sled came w/ simmons gen 1's that are white, so they gotta go. i have heard good things on the grippers, just do have em.

mountainhorse, or anyone, whats up w/ the new sway bar? i am trying to make this the easiest carving sled i can w/o throwing a ton of cash at it.

The D7 does not need much effort to sidehill. In fact, the sidehilling effort is usually to keep it from going over too far. I prefered the sway bar on and I had Fox Evol R shocks. The WE's are very soft and I wouldnt' reocmmend the WE and NO swar bar combination.

You will want Better Boards (snow evacuation sucks!), I preferred the HPS can, 19/42 gearing (yours probably has 20), rear taillight relocation (fire n ice) and updates from Polaris. I agree with mountainhorse, the D7 doesn't go through belts fast and doesn't "require" venting. 09 plastic and sway bar are nices mods. Your wife will probably be fine, but the stock WE shocks don't cut it. I went with a Holz rear and Fox Float Evol's on the front. Great sled.

I have a 2007 D7, (short track) bought it new, 3900 miles now.

The PC-3 with DYNOTECH Jim's mapping is the single best mod I did.

It used to have that annoying mid-range LEAN spot and was PIG RICH on top, all is well now with the PC-3.

DYNOTECH Jim also has the PC-3 Map for the SLP piped 700 as well, if you decide to go that route.

After that, check out my TECH TIPS for 600/700/800 CFI's at the top under "INCREASING YOUR IQ"

Bug makes a great point... All the sled mods in the world if you can't stay on the sled.

The better boards do that for you and keep you in better control.

funny you guys all run the better boards, i like the no-sno's better,
but was over at a friends right after getting the sled and the donations
started rolling in including the 08 & up brake light, a used set of the better boards, and some extra plastic. thanks guys.

hey, i dont mean to be lazy doing a search, but anyone know what Polaris
sent these sleds out with for gearing? or were most dealers changing the
stock gearing prior to delivery?

I would replace the helix with a proprietary cut helix available from Carls...BIG DIFFERENCE especially with 19/42 gearing.

The newer SLP pipe and can for the 700....BIG DIFFERENCE ask Chris Kasel

Agree with the other recs, I disagree on the venting. Proper clutching and venting and you'll never need a belt again.

Earlier in the thread 09 and newer a-arms/sway bar was recomended...it's spendy but does help over the 08 and earlier design...OR order some better front shocks specifically valved for removal of the sway bar and stay with the 08 and earlier style a-arms.

BTW, the track is something to be desired in our snow conditions.

Hey guys, i just picked up a nice clean 07 d7 for my wife that is bone stock except for holz a arms. I know in the cat section, there are threads about must do's

Must do's:

- 10 gallons premium fuel

- Full oil injection tank

- One very comfortably dressed and equipped wife. This is the most important if YOU want to have fun!

- Pull and go!!!

Everything else is just extra on one of the best sleds Polaris EVER produced! Feel free to equip the sled like in my signature.

If you put a good clutch kit on it you don't need excessive venting.

Gripper skis with woody's 6" wear bar...new spindles from an 09 or 10...proper handle bar height....a set of simple shock tower vents....slp single pipe and can...trim the 5.1 155 track to 2.1 install screws....remove all hood and panel foam...leave the gearing stock...Carl's clutch kit for your elevation....

Most of that you can find used or do yourself for nothing but labor. I'd get a clutch kit and trim the track first and foremost. You already have the number one aftermarket ad with the Better Boards. GO RIDE IT

...down the road if she loves it...FOX shocks..09 - 10 body kit..BETTER BARS...sled will feel and run awesome!
