First time to the snowies

F
We have decided to give the snowies a try this year, leaving Xmas day, wonder where the easiest place to get licenses on the 26. Staying in Larime. Hope to have a great time just would like to have my poop in a group so we can make the most of our 2.5 days of riding for the 20 hrs of driving.

You can get a liscense at any dealer in Laramie, the Laramie Fly Store gas station on the way out of Laramie, or the Forgot Store in Centennial. They will ask you if you want to donate a couple bucks for the Search and Rescue fund. Expect to get 'hung' if you decline:nod::nod:

Thanks, can't wait to hear how it is, First time for us flatlanders hope to have a blast, any suggestions on places to ck out would be awesome I a first timer yet everyone still follows me, I hope to give them a great ride. First time to get my father out in the real mountains (Black hills doesn't count anymore) hope to not freak him out, then he might come back and buy the refreshments next time.:face-icon-small-ton

I see the forecast Friday 20th is supposed to be snow and a calm breeze of 50mph with gusts up to 80.

Rule of thumb for Snowies if you haven't heard it - when driving to the mtn on 130, and you get to the fork in the road which goes left to Albany or straight to Centennial - if you can't see the mountaintops toward Centennial, turn left and ride out of Albany.

Sounds about right. Either it's too frickin windy, snowing heavy, or both. Not fun especially if the first time at Snowies.

^^^^^^^^ Excellent advice. If the wind's blowing that hard you want to be down by Albany, especially if it's your first time here.

Just another dump ? Book on the 155 pro says to run 60's one guy at the dealership suggested that I run 58's. The owner said it really didn't matter, Also have 144 Assualt SWback 2" paddle, Again same advice just wondering what the others are accutally running would be? I know they suggested changing the clutch spring, but I will give up some performance in for convineance, To much work for 2.5 days of riding.

No problem, from the looks of things you're going to catch some nice days and we've been getting some snow. Have fun

i have been looking into making a trip down here too guys. how far from laramie is the parking lot(s).

I have the 144 Assault SB with 2in paddle. Run the 60s with the Black/purple (I think, whatever manual called for) spring in Secondary. My Assault has ran great every trip to the Snowies (3 now).

Same setup as I plan to run on the new 14 Pro 155 when we get to Ten Mile on Jan 25th. Can't wait to try her out!!

Have fun. Your dad should LOVE it. My Dad is 63 now and he comes with us every trip to the Snowies and he just loves it. He's in heaven on his 154 Freeride. I hope I can enjoy this sport as much as him when I'm his age!

Thanks again, on the Road at 10 am hope to see Laramie by 7 or 8 p.m.. Tags by 7:00 Balls deep by nine,(in snow):face-icon-small-ton that's my Christmas wish.

Looks like you should have great snow. They just got a good snow fall yesterday. Like everyone has been saying just ride out of Albany and stay out of the wind. Also your Dad will ease into the change of Black Hills to the mountains better down there than going up to the big stuff right a way. Have fun and be careful!!!!

Snowies

Hi, text me if you wouldn't mind a tag along. Im thinking about coming out to Laramie today but don't have anyone to ride with. 319-551-1043. Ive rode the Snowies before as well. Thx

Heading out to Albany in 2 weeks, please let us know how it is riding out of there if you stay there.

Merry Christmas everyone!

As of sunday the 22nd riding out of Albany sucked. That's the least amount of snow I have every seen on that trail. Not sure if they plowed it for logging for several weeks or what but there was several miles out of Albany that you were dragging ski runners on the gravel road.

Now it was snowing hard when we left and I know that Albany picked up a few inches since then but you need to get about 15 miles north of Albany before its good off trail. Just not enough base and too much deadfall.

Plenty of snow once you get farther north. Unloading up top would be a much better option. The snow is great in places up there. we found spots of 2-3ft of powder and 30-40" of base in most places. Eric
