First time to grand mesa

I think you are right Sam. I could respond to this last post, but it really isn't worth it. Some people just don't get it. My offer stands, but I am sure it won't be acted on. TML out.

Got yourself a stalker Mark. :face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

Sam

I'll have Michelle in touch on dates requested . Thanks

With the mention of TML having PBR I know 100% our group will be at TML this year! Still working out the details but sounds like End of February early-mid March.

Mark,
Can you send me a PM with the dates available between February 27th and March 13th. Looking for 5-6 nights and riding over a weekend, so something like a Thursday or Friday to Tuesday or Wednesday. 3-4 in our group....
Thanks!

Last year a group of us drove about 14+ hours out to TML not knowing what to expect, and we were not disappointed. Mark and Billy took care of us and were always willing to help. One guy in our group was getting altitude sickness and billy was very helpful getting him to lower altitude. Mark would help us everyday and tell us where the good riding was. You will NOT be disappointed with the service you get at TML. As I have heard, Billy is no longer there, but I know mark isn't going to let that ruin his business.

As far as riding, I enjoyed going out to lands end if it is clear. It is wide open meadows and with good snow is a blast. If you go east from the lodge you start riding in the trees. If you are new, have a GPS or at least a trail map with you. We got lost a few times, but sometimes that's half the fun.

TML

I'm from Minnesota and rode Grand Mesa in 2011. We stayed at Thunder Mountain Lodge. It was our 1st trip to Colorado. The cabin we stayed in was older, but adequate. There were several cabins in various stages of construction and looked to be 1st class. The service was excellent and the food was fabulous. I am disappointed that they no longer serve breakfast.

Grand Mesa Lodge was under renovation at the time, but appeared to have great promise. I met the owners who seemed nice and focused.

Alexander Lodge was quaint, but fine. I only saw microwave selections at the time.

Electric Lodge was a good ride from the others and not as conveniant. You could find decent snow a few miles away. The food was good. The atmosphere was pleasant and the lodging looked to be very comfortable. You should enjoy it.

As to the riding on the Mesa, it was a good snow year and in 23 years of sledding out west, I've never seen better. Great sledding.

Snow conditions are key! There are several places in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho that have great sledding if conditions are right. Grand Mesa is right there with them.

Hope this helps.

2. Acknowledgment Grand Mesa Lodge sells race gas different than yours.

You must not be to smart with all this talk about Race Gas at Grand mesa lodge! They don't have race gas bud! Race gas is 110 octane or more generally and costs around 9 bucks a gallon give or take! Then there is av gas which is 100 octane, this is what they are blending into the same gas that TML has 87 octane. They are blending in 20% av gas im pretty sure! That might give you 93 octane! That is not race gas bud!

Us guys running boost gennerally want more then 93 octane for 4 somthing dollers a gallon! When we can buy straight av100octanefor 5 bucks a gallon and mix ourselves to meet whatever octane needs we have! Most of us understood this when we set up our sleds with a turbo and just bring along our high octane fuel!

Mark know this as well and that is why he doesnt bother with anything but good pg fuel for 80% of his costomers!

As far as lodges go on Grand Mesa Mark is been the best thing that has happend up here! This is my back yard i have been riding up here probably 40-80 days a winter since year 2000! We have always had horibble lodging situations up here on Grand Mesa! New owners every other year incositant hours at alexander, spruce(currently tml)and Electric mountain lodges! Grand mesa lodge was always there and open but they have never had a restraunt just candy bars and drinks!

Since Mark opened TMl its like having a home away from home for us local guys! He is always open, has always provided excellent food and all around costomer service! He takes it beyond that though he treats everyone as if they were long time friends! He is always willing to help people out however he can to make there experiance on Grand mesa and at TML better! I have seen him Go completly out of his way to get costomers that are on trips from back east the parts they need and the tools they need to get there sleds going the very next day when they have trouble, even bending, straighting and welding a arms up to get them by when parts are not available somtimes taking parts off his sleds somtimes! You just dont find that everywhere and I think grand mesa was very lucky to have TML and Mark!

Yep! PBR's $2! At least they were around Christmas! Cheapest beer on the Mesa and oh so good! And yes, Mark, Alexander had burgers on their menu at New Year's because we ate them! And that menu posted above IS two years old! The 'live music' was pretty questionable. Nice people running the place though.

That said, you really can't go wrong with the lodge selection right now on the Mesa. Mark is a great guy and is doing alot to promote snowmobiling. The folks that are runnning his restaurant are new and the menu is good. Thanks Mark we appreciate it.

The folks at Electric Mountain Lodge are also great people and they have dumped a ton of $ into their lodge this year. I haven't personally had a chance to stop by there this winter but last fall we rode our ATV's into their place and everything was excellent.

I haven't been to Grand Mesa Lodge as they (at least in the past, don't want to get accused of lying here!) don't provide food and since I live here I don't need lodging. But I've never heard an ill word about them.

There is another lodge that hasn't been mentioned and that is Mesa Lakes Lodge. I think they cater more to cross country skiers and snowshoers. At one time the lodge was trying to develop a snowmobile clientele and had a groomed trail connected to the rest of the Mesa but I don't know if they do any more or not. They have a restaurant facility.

EML is at a lower elevation than the other lodges. As mentioned above, your best bet IMO is to head west on the SP trail. It is the groomed trail that forms the 'backbone' of the Grand Mesa Trail System. Google 'Colorado Snowmobile Association' and click 'Trail Reports/Maps' for the latest in snow conditions and grooming reports. The SP is a great way to get around to different riding areas and can be a great point of reference to come back to from time to time so you don't get lost. EML should have free maps of the trail system.

Have fun and enjoy the Mesa! There are literally hundreds of spots to explore up there and there is terrain to suit any riding style! You won't be disappointed!

Yep, all those year running "Phillips Blue" in my Sportsman and straight alcohol in my Super Modified did nothing to educate me on race gas. Here I could have just asked you to get he real info! I am not even going to attempt to educate you on fuel and engines and we both know it will be a waste of time. But just for fun,

http://www.smithtex.com/racing/fuelcomp.html

Philips b35 = 96 Octane
Shell 100ULE = 96 Octane
TORCO Mach 104 = 97 Octane
VP Racing C-10 = 96 Octane

I think these companies consider that fuel "race gas" whether it fits your thoughts or not.

But do refer back to Mark's comments on altitude and fuel needs as they do change. Higher altitude = less octane needed. My 280 horsepower Nytro runs better on GML fuel than the mix I usually use from Chief Petroleum. But hey, run what you want eh?

I have thought long and hard about this situation. In the past I have bitten my tongue and on the advice of others I have not said anything and as others have suggested it would all go away. Unfortunatly that is not the case I think it is now time to call a spade a spade and set the record straight. Stingray, I have never you called you a liar and to say I have is false and an insult to me. I posted what is accurate information as requested by alexdm. Your posts are false as I can easily prove that. The reason to post accurate info is so people do not expect more than is really available on the Mesa. When people show up thinking there is one thing and in reality there is not it reflects badly and hurts all the businesses on the entire area not just the facility who misrepresented things.

Categorically: I DO SELL THE SAME FUEL AS Grand Mesa Lodge. We and they sell 87 octane non-ethonol. It comes from Master Petroleum out of the same truck. They usually come up here and fill us at the same time. Now, GML also, or in addition to, also have them blend a mixture of 87 and AV gas to get around 93 to 94 octane. This we do not sell. 99% of the sleds up here cannnot not utilize even 91 octane because of our elevation. Ask any petroleum engineer/chemist and you will find 87 octane is more than adequate. The only reason for an AV gas mix is for a boosted sled, which we have a lot of up here but nearly everyone of them bring their own fuel as they have a particular mix they want. Non-ethonol is the key and that we have same as GML. Alexander did have a contamination problem with rust and condensation. Andy from Alexander was sending people over here to buy gas. My understanding within the last few days he now has that problem corrected. Don't know for sure, but it is what I have heard.

Food: The menu you posted about Alexander is over 2 years old and was originally put on the website by the people who tryed to run that lodge at that time. They no longer have this menu. I know this as Andy sends people over here all the time to eat in our restaurant. Easily proved by the way, call over there and order the WILD BOAR WITH CRANBERRIES AND APRICOTS, and see how that works out for ya! Just because it is on their website does not make it gosple. If, and that is a big if, you actually had a brat and burger at New Years it was a special they did and is not what they serve everyday. I was second guessing myself for a while about what they had so I had one of my staff call there yesterday, explain who she was and asked Andy directly what he has for food. He informed her he only has hot dogs, brats on occasion and breakfast on request. All he had orignally was microwave items asn the kitchen was not open. I knew he had breakfast as I send my clients to him as we do not offer that. He also has MICROWAVE PIZZA from Sams. In fairness to him he is trying to get the restaurant open by the end of Feb.

Lodging: Andy is I believe the 5th person in the last 3 years trying to run Alexander. The hours there have always been sporadic and unreliable. Just last summer alone I was able to provide cabins to 6 different groups that showed up there and no one was around even though they had paid for reservation. They came here wanting to figure what to do and we helped them out. As another example I stopped by there yesterday for lunch with 5 guys as they are supposed to be open 7 days a week and no one was there.

To give you a little idea as to what is really happening up here and I feel I have my finger on the pulse of the Mesa as I own Thunder Mountain Lodge, work here, and live year round. I think that makes me a little bit more of an authority rather than someone who lives 6-7 hours away and for the last 2 years has been posting erroneous, and very thinly veiled posts bad mouthing TML. I bought this place 3 years ago as I felt the customer service and consistency on the Mesa was very poor at the very best. This lodge used to be called Spruce Lodge and was boycotted by nearly everyone due to the poor attitude and service. The owners did not like Atv's, Snowmobilers, and would not even rent you a cabin if you hunted. The same people that owned Spruce Lodge then still own Alexander to this day. I saw a need and decide to try and fill it. I along with the mgr. at Alexander and the owners Mike and Rose of GML are all working closely together to promote and provide better service up here. GML and TML are really working together on a number of things to help both of our customers have an enjoyable stay.

To my knowledge we have never met, you have never stayed here, eaten here, or we have never tried to provide any type of service to you. Don't know what got a burr under your saddle about TML but is laughable when you post about your extensive knowledge up here. Everytime you post I get a minimum of a dozen PM's from people wanting to know what I did to piss off the Nutcase now. Nutcase is not my words but it is what has been used to describe you. If you were only going after me or TML I would just blow it off, but now you are also getting on one of my best customers and that I won't stand for. To me it is the same as being disrespectful to my family, friends or employees. One of the places you shop wanted me to cut you some slack as they felt you were an ok guy and out of respect for their request I have not responded much to your posts, but enough is enough, if you have problem with me, be a man and stop by and let me know what it is and I will do my best to resolve it and buy you a PBR, or I'll show you the door your call, otherwise STFU!
The biggest problem in this day and age is the social media we now live in. Any Joe Schmoe can come on a public forum and post whatever they want and people take it as gosple. Why I did not respond earlier as I am actually up here working, seeing to my customers needs and riding, not just being a KEYBOARD WARRIOR. As a business owner, we walk a fine line trying to keep everyone happy. I am sure there will be those who think this post is inappropriate, but if you look at all the positive posts on here and there are hundreds, about TML I think you will find nearly everyone is happy with what we provide. But your posts are nearly always BULL**** and I for one am tired of them.
To all the people reading this post and if I have offended any I apologize in advance. If any of you would like come by, see what we have to offer, stay, eat, drink or just hang out. We will do our best to make sure your stay is everything you were expecting and if there ever is a problem I will do everything I can to resolve it and if you are still truly unhappy I will refund your money. Rest assured our posts are accurate, I put my money where my mouth is. Thank You, Mark

I do not know you, and have not sledded in your area, but by the way you express yourself, defend your family and friends, I would be honored to sled with you anytime :face-icon-small-coo

Thank you very much. I think the 30 thanks on the original post and nearly twice that many pm's validates my thoughts and feelings. You have an open invitation to come for a visit. I just happen to have a very good friend and Yamaha R&D guy right at the bottom of the mountain. Are you familiar with Mark Brozina? Hell of a guy. thanks again

Hey Ryan, don't let comments like this get to ya. Everyone around here knows what kind of power you ride and I would say after seeing your rides perform you have a pretty good grasp on fuel and what works. Now if I could just give you a few pointers on riding..........lol

Classic example of tough guy behind the keyboard. Never anything good to say. I think you should grab mummy's hand and take your ball home. It's bedtime. It's also fitting that you clunk around on that fancy four stroke. I feel sorry for you in every way. You clearly don't grasp the concept of all of us sledders being a community and we stand together. Not bash a hard working business because Mark rubs you the wrong way. Grow up. If you don't like my words then come up to the Mesa feb 8-10 and ill be your "guide" for the day. Focker out.

Hey Stingray. Take Mark up on his offer. I'll bring my little Apex up and we can compare our Yamahas. Nothing like an open invitation. Ryan, we need some snow so we can compare the turbos. The Tapex is a pig in the set up stuff. Your sleds look to be ripping. Mark, your poor cat needs to stay on the porch. Haha:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
