First time to grand mesa

I have read some great riding reviews from people riding from the thunder mountain lodge. Just wonering what riding is like around the Electric mountain lodge, where we are staying. Maybe they are close to each other and the snow is the same I have no clue. thanks much for any info.

yes prettty much same riding terrain, they are only a short trail ride away from one another with thousands of acres to rip it up in between!!!

Electric Mountain Lodge as I remember is lower in altitude so less snow but still great riding. TML and Grand Mesa lodge and Alexander Lake lodge are all very close to each other. Alexander Lake Lodge has live music and food in there lodge on the weekends. Grand Mesa Lodge has race fuel at 4 dollars something if you need fuel.

We were there on New Years and going back again in a couple weeks, always a great time there.

Hubbard Park is where Elec. Mtn. Lodge sits. Usually there is quite a bit less snow on that south facing slope, and it sits about 2000 feet less in elevation. There is better snow and terrain in a more westerly route from there. It is about 35 miles by trail to Thunder Mountain Lodge. ELM has nice cabins and restaurant just a little thin on snow as a rule. Alexander, WHEN IT IS OPEN, very eratic, would not count on it being open, only has micro wave snacks. Their music is open to interpretation, not quite the club scene if you get my meaning, pretty mellow.
Thunder Mountain Lodge has a full restaurant and bar, daily specials, clean, dry, non ethanol fuel, same as Grand Mesa Lodge. We buy from the same place. Alexanders tanks have been contaiminated for quite some time, careful if you buy gas there.
TML has park & ride right from you cabin, guides, tv's, fireplaces, wifi, cell service, huge flat parking lot. If you get this way stop into Thunder Mountain Lodge and we will get you pointed in the right direction. See pics from recent rides on Thunder Mountain Lodge Snow report 1,2 & 3 posts on here to get and idea of snow conditions in the area. Thanks, Mark

WHAT?? Alexander Lodge served us elk bratwurst and I can tell you it was not from a microwave. Had delicious hamburgers on New Years that also were not from a microwave. Served fresh scrambled eggs for us at the breakfast buffet. Microwave snacks only?????? huh?

Grand Mesa Lodge has non ethanol premium/Avgas mix. Have you started selling race gas mix for sleds? If so that's great, if not you are not selling same fuel as Grand Mesa Lodge. Please clarify this.

And this is also what we saw and enjoyed on Thanksgiving and New Years so I know it really exists.

Our Cafe is now open!

We have added some amazingly satisfying 'mountain' food!

Handmade, right here at Alexander, with our own unique recipes we are now offering a mouthwatering selection of specialty brats and sausages! Some of the varieties include: Elk Jalapeno Cheddar, Sweet Italian Bison, Wild Boar with Apricots and Cranberries to name a few. Served with grilled onions and a butter-rich mild sauerkraut, it is really a very special way to enjoy the Colorado life!

Or perhaps you would prefer to try one of our great Chilis...each flavor seems to be developing a 'cult following'! We offer 2 of our own recipes. One a red chili con carne the other a slow roasted green pork chili. Come vote for your favorite!

Additionally, we have added cappuccinos, lattes and just some good brew, coupled with the addition of a bakery. Can anyone say hot fresh cinnamon rolls?

We just can't think of a better way to start the day than to sip a premium hot chocolate or coffee along with a mouthwatering bite of hot, fresh cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, or premium specialty cookies. All this while enjoying the ambiance of this historic lodge and taking in the beautiful and relaxing views of Alexander Lake.

Have you got an axe to grind with Mark???? Seems most times someone asks about TML you are endorsing Alexander or Grand Mesa Lodge. I have nothing against these other lodges, but it is rather odd there are more times than not a post from you endorsing the others in a TML thread. :face-icon-small-con:face-icon-small-con

Maybe start your own thread endorsing the others. Just a thought.

Sam

I am a little puzzled Sam. Please take note this is NOT a TML thread. Original poster asked a question and I answered....even mentioned TML. All good so far right?

The Mark comes on and calls me a liar and says Alexander does not have food just microwave snacks. Then says he has the same fuel Grand Mesa Lodge does, and you know that Grand Mesa Lodge does have the same fuel BUT they mix Av gas in with there unleaded Premium. So, I asked if Mark was now mixing Av gas in his, no response yet.

Did you think I would not respond back after Mark refuted what I said and called me a liar?? Who has the problem here?

The OP is not even asking opinions on lodges. He is asking about TERRAIN. YOU come on the thread offering your endorsements regarding the other lodges, none of which were even mentiond or inquired about in first post. BTW, TML was mentioned.

As far as Marks post, he is a big boy and more than capable of resolving any "internet" squabbles (which I highly doubt he even gives much thought to this thread due to your involvement).

It is just ODD that you seem to more times than not interject your opinions regarding lodges even when NOT asked. It is obvious and premeditated.

I'm done. As Dizz says. :lalala::lalala:

Sam

I ran all weekend on Alexander lodge fuel and my sled ran great and I ate there hot breakfast every day too and I ran great also. I stayed at Tml. and enjoyed there dinners. Electric mountian lodge is on the flatter side of the Mesa and less snow and you would spend most of your fuel getting to the big terain .

I have thought long and hard about this situation. In the past I have bitten my tongue and on the advice of others I have not said anything and as others have suggested it would all go away. Unfortunatly that is not the case I think it is now time to call a spade a spade and set the record straight. Stingray, I have never you called you a liar and to say I have is false and an insult to me. I posted what is accurate information as requested by alexdm. Your posts are false as I can easily prove that. The reason to post accurate info is so people do not expect more than is really available on the Mesa. When people show up thinking there is one thing and in reality there is not it reflects badly and hurts all the businesses on the entire area not just the facility who misrepresented things.

Categorically: I DO SELL THE SAME FUEL AS Grand Mesa Lodge. We and they sell 87 octane non-ethonol. It comes from Master Petroleum out of the same truck. They usually come up here and fill us at the same time. Now, GML also, or in addition to, also have them blend a mixture of 87 and AV gas to get around 93 to 94 octane. This we do not sell. 99% of the sleds up here cannnot not utilize even 91 octane because of our elevation. Ask any petroleum engineer/chemist and you will find 87 octane is more than adequate. The only reason for an AV gas mix is for a boosted sled, which we have a lot of up here but nearly everyone of them bring their own fuel as they have a particular mix they want. Non-ethonol is the key and that we have same as GML. Alexander did have a contamination problem with rust and condensation. Andy from Alexander was sending people over here to buy gas. My understanding within the last few days he now has that problem corrected. Don't know for sure, but it is what I have heard.

Food: The menu you posted about Alexander is over 2 years old and was originally put on the website by the people who tryed to run that lodge at that time. They no longer have this menu. I know this as Andy sends people over here all the time to eat in our restaurant. Easily proved by the way, call over there and order the WILD BOAR WITH CRANBERRIES AND APRICOTS, and see how that works out for ya! Just because it is on their website does not make it gosple. If, and that is a big if, you actually had a brat and burger at New Years it was a special they did and is not what they serve everyday. I was second guessing myself for a while about what they had so I had one of my staff call there yesterday, explain who she was and asked Andy directly what he has for food. He informed her he only has hot dogs, brats on occasion and breakfast on request. All he had orignally was microwave items asn the kitchen was not open. I knew he had breakfast as I send my clients to him as we do not offer that. He also has MICROWAVE PIZZA from Sams. In fairness to him he is trying to get the restaurant open by the end of Feb.

Lodging: Andy is I believe the 5th person in the last 3 years trying to run Alexander. The hours there have always been sporadic and unreliable. Just last summer alone I was able to provide cabins to 6 different groups that showed up there and no one was around even though they had paid for reservation. They came here wanting to figure what to do and we helped them out. As another example I stopped by there yesterday for lunch with 5 guys as they are supposed to be open 7 days a week and no one was there.

To give you a little idea as to what is really happening up here and I feel I have my finger on the pulse of the Mesa as I own Thunder Mountain Lodge, work here, and live year round. I think that makes me a little bit more of an authority rather than someone who lives 6-7 hours away and for the last 2 years has been posting erroneous, and very thinly veiled posts bad mouthing TML. I bought this place 3 years ago as I felt the customer service and consistency on the Mesa was very poor at the very best. This lodge used to be called Spruce Lodge and was boycotted by nearly everyone due to the poor attitude and service. The owners did not like Atv's, Snowmobilers, and would not even rent you a cabin if you hunted. The same people that owned Spruce Lodge then still own Alexander to this day. I saw a need and decide to try and fill it. I along with the mgr. at Alexander and the owners Mike and Rose of GML are all working closely together to promote and provide better service up here. GML and TML are really working together on a number of things to help both of our customers have an enjoyable stay.

To my knowledge we have never met, you have never stayed here, eaten here, or we have never tried to provide any type of service to you. Don't know what got a burr under your saddle about TML but is laughable when you post about your extensive knowledge up here. Everytime you post I get a minimum of a dozen PM's from people wanting to know what I did to piss off the Nutcase now. Nutcase is not my words but it is what has been used to describe you. If you were only going after me or TML I would just blow it off, but now you are also getting on one of my best customers and that I won't stand for. To me it is the same as being disrespectful to my family, friends or employees. One of the places you shop wanted me to cut you some slack as they felt you were an ok guy and out of respect for their request I have not responded much to your posts, but enough is enough, if you have problem with me, be a man and stop by and let me know what it is and I will do my best to resolve it and buy you a PBR, or I'll show you the door your call, otherwise STFU!
The biggest problem in this day and age is the social media we now live in. Any Joe Schmoe can come on a public forum and post whatever they want and people take it as gosple. Why I did not respond earlier as I am actually up here working, seeing to my customers needs and riding, not just being a KEYBOARD WARRIOR. As a business owner, we walk a fine line trying to keep everyone happy. I am sure there will be those who think this post is inappropriate, but if you look at all the positive posts on here and there are hundreds, about TML I think you will find nearly everyone is happy with what we provide. But your posts are nearly always BULL**** and I for one am tired of them.
To all the people reading this post and if I have offended any I apologize in advance. If any of you would like come by, see what we have to offer, stay, eat, drink or just hang out. We will do our best to make sure your stay is everything you were expecting and if there ever is a problem I will do everything I can to resolve it and if you are still truly unhappy I will refund your money. Rest assured our posts are accurate, I put my money where my mouth is. Thank You, Mark

With the mention of TML having PBR I know 100% our group will be at TML this year! Still working out the details but sounds like End of February early-mid March.

Mark,
Can you send me a PM with the dates available between February 27th and March 13th. Looking for 5-6 nights and riding over a weekend, so something like a Thursday or Friday to Tuesday or Wednesday. 3-4 in our group....
Thanks!

Where did Covellis post go??? I kinda liked it. That eastern hospitality ya know. :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-ton

Mark, get that snow generator going up there would ya. We should be up this weekend for a little testing. This past weekend bombed.

Sam

Depends on what you like to ride. The area over by EML doesn't do much for me. But if you look around, there is some good stuff. I would imagine that sage brush is still sticking up through the snow in places.

Wow you are too much. Claim you have never called me a liar and then do it in the same post.

Stingray, I have never you called you a liar and to say I have is false and an insult to me.

If, and that is a big if, you actually had a brat and burger at New Years

I see you have rescinded your accusation that Alexander Lake Lodge is selling contaminated fuel and I commend you on that. Too bad it took this post to bring that about.

Alexander had the café open both times I went there this year on New Years and Thanksgiving. Might it be closed other times? Sure that is possible but you stated they ONLY have microwave food. Not sure why this is an issue as the more amenities on the Mesa the better it is for all, as you alluded too in your post.

The reason to post accurate info is so people do not expect more than is really available on the Mesa.

I agree and that is why if it was me I would want to know about affordable race fuel and also where a hot breakfast was.

The reason to post accurate info is so people do not expect more than is really available on the Mesa.

Once again I agree. The difference between Premium Unleaded and a race gas blend should be noted as they are NOT the same and someone who had been running Grand Mesa Lodges race blend in there boosted machine who had read your post above and believed they were the same could sustain some serious engine damage.

To my knowledge we have never met, you have never stayed here, eaten here, or we have never tried to provide any type of service to you.

LOL! How many of the PM,s we exchanged over an incident should I post? How about just this one as no need in beating a dead horse. Please note it goes against my principal to post a PM but in this case to prove a fact I must. Those that PMed me about TML I will never post. Please note that after all this to resolve the issue Mark posted an insulting post online. Odd. Why bother to attempt to fix an issue and then make fun of that person.

Sorry, it does not ring any bells. Billy who runs the kitchen is about that size, but has bright red hair. He has 2 guys in the kitchen who aren't here today but they are closer to my size, about 6' and 220#. I really am sorry for anything happening here. Please stop by again and I will make sure you have a good experience.

From the post I just put up,

Guy was about 5' 9" small build. He had dark blond hair and a brown t-shirt. He came out of the back door and said "We park big trailers and stuff here you have to park out front". We asked about the other sleds parked there and he said they had to move also. He then started talking to another guy that drove up on a sled like he knew him well.

If he was not one of your guys I apoligize, but as he came out of the back door and respresented himself with the authority to tell us to move I had no reason to not assume he worked there. We were wanting a fun weekend and taking this any farther that day was not our idea of fun so we just rode on.

Once again if I was wrong I apoligize but all 5 people in our party thought he was an employee. Does the description ring any bells? Was on Friday about 2 pm I believe.

And of course you felt the need to post this,
Nutcase is not my words but it is what has been used to describe you.

I suspect I know who this would be and I would suggest you not bad mouth them here. Fight your own battles. I have asked all my friends to stay out of our posts, its not a bad suggestion.
One of the places you shop wanted me to cut you some slack as they felt you were an ok guy and out of respect for their request I have not responded much to your posts,

Other than the post above where TML and I had a difference of opinion I have not bad mouthed TML. The posts I have made usually come when TML is represented as the ONLY lodge on the Mesa. Want to see my posts stop? Say "There are 4 lodges on the Mesa but ours is the best, check our hundreds of posts from happy customers". No complaint from me that way. Because like you I tend to protect friends also even if they don't need it and whether deliberate or by accident giving the impression you are the only lodge is going to get me or somebody else to pipe up. I like Mike and Rose and I like Andy and dissing them will get a response, you should understand that,
If you were only going after me or TML I would just blow it off, but now you are also getting on one of my best customers and that I won't stand for.

SO,
1. Accusation against Alexander selling contaminated gas rescinded
2. Acknowledgment Grand Mesa Lodge sells race gas different than yours.
3. No acknowledgement per se on Alexander's Café but you can't win them all?

None of this would have been posted or happened had your original post been accurate. I commend you though for admitting you were wrong.

Time to move along I think.
