First ride on the new Powerclaw track

Put a Powerclaw under my ski-doo this year and took it boondocking yesterday, it hooks up well but the paddles are already bent over. The fingers seem to hold their shape but the paddles are sure soft. We'll see, if it works it works but with 7 hours on it it looks 3 yrs. old already.

Tells us more about the track. I am interested in doing this to my XP. Did it change handling/lay over? How did it hook up? Did you increase track speed?

Cheers
Shawn

Didn't have deep pow conditions to try it in but I thought I had a couple Wow! moments where I lost momentum changing lines-uphill through the trees-where I thought I was going down and didn't. I'm not happy with the bending of the paddles but I carved a couple 10' donuts with this 163 that seemed as tight as my old 151. I didn't notice any difference laying it over but that's more of a ski thing to me. I had to go with a 7 tooth driver and re-gear which ended up being a little lower than previous set-up so track speed was good yesterday but we were on deep settled snow and short pulls. Here's how it holds back downhill on hardpack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaKByOtCWy4 PM me if you decide to change over, I'll tell you how to do it $500 cheaper and 20 hours faster than I did it:D

You bought a powder track and you want the paddles to stand straight up so it will trench?

how much bend are we talkin about, anyway??

It's bent back about as much as it was bent forward when I put it on maybe 10 degrees. If I remember right the attack 20's were 20 degrees? and this track wasn't that aggresive but now it looks like an attack 20 running in the un-attack direction.

That's why I went with the Camo Extreme. Knowing AC, I figured it would be a powder only track. Nothing wrong with that if you get 4 feet of fluff every week. Yes the fingers are stiff, but there aren't that many to help in set-up snow. How about the 15 wide though!! Much better, eh?:face-icon-small-ton

The paddles are bent backwards form the factory. If you read about the track on cat website it states that the paddles attack the snow at a negative angle. Its hard to notice but if you look closely you can see that the paddles are bent back for the very beginning.

Hmm, thats interesting that it attacks at a negative angle but mine were bent forward before I rode it and now they're bent back. If they're saying the track is molded with a negative angle (away from the direction of travel)I'd like to see that. I didn't really have to look closely, the paddles were raked forward the same as the fingers and now they're bent back from about 2/3 up the paddle.

Vern, I didn't know about the HRC version, what is it? I'm not really after a stiff track, I like the idea of it flexing and bending the paddles backwards but I'd like it snap back and retain it's original profile longer than 1 ride.

Revpilot - Sorry about the fact that we still have not confirmed out trip next week.

We have a cabin ready to go but we still are not committed to next week, if not next week it would be two weeks later.

I like the camo extreme 2.5 track but I have only used it on 300 plus hp machines.

The attack 20 was the best floatation track I have ever ridden but it got us in trouble several times in firm snow and hard pack.

I like a track that will get me up the climb and still hold me back as much as is possible on the way back down.

That is exactly what the paddles are supposed to do, they will bend toward the front of the machine causing a lifting motion while they are spun over the snow. The outer lugs are in place (opposite angle), so you won't spin out when you hit an icy spot (kind of a nightmare with the old A-20 track). The HCR track is a bit firmer, and sounds like it would have been a better choice, an attack 20 run in hillclimb position might have been the best choice for you as there isn't a track out there that will hook up harder.
