First ride of the season!!

Am I the only one that thinks it's kinda stupid to advertise the fact ONLINE that you're riding on less than a foot of snow in an area that aggressively enforces that rule normally?

Seems this would be a WONDERFUL thread for some DB greenie to bring to one of the land mgmt meetings to show how stupid we all are & how we don't follow even the simple rules that we have in place now, so how can we as a user group possibly be trusted.....

I just find it strange that I'm the only one to mention this.

Don't mean to be a downer, but this just seems too perfect of an advertisement for their side.:confused:
Article in the Steamboat Pilot&Today Thur.June 1 2006,U.S. Forest Service has an official message for snowmobilers ,riders caught riding in less than 12in. on "ANY" forest service land face up to 30 days in jail and up to $5,000 fine, and may also be required to repair any enviromental damage.

And if it is in the Pilot it's gotta be completely acurate!;)

Old news. This has been hashed out many times. Tickets are rare and only for riding off road. They rarely go looking for riders but they do keep an eye out for sledders headed up the pass early season. The most damage is from hunters and ATVs.

GOTCHA!

Pic #4 sure looks like it's off trail, this was what I was looking at.

With all the land mgmt/closure talk lately I just don't want to see US shooting US in the foot.

If nothing else a little clarification keeps that type of person from using this type of thing for their purposes.

Debbie downer, lik my nutz!!!!!:D

I'm glad you posted that. I didn't even know that law existed, and I work in the laws business. Might be a lot of people like me that didn't even know.

Looks good TA!

I would think if you wanted to put wheels on and run your sled on a dirt OHV trail nobody could do squat. You would be an idiot of course, but I doubt there is a law against that. Prolly depends on what level the road it is. eg. county road, FSR etc. Really don't know since I tend to wait until theres enough snow that hunters aren't generally going to be able to use the roads... like 2' plus.

This next round should bring enough for some road/tuning rides. Dumping good here now :face-icon-small-hap

It's been snowing here all day so I might be going back up thursday. The way it was snowing up there sunday I'm sure all the hunters are gone. Snow updates coming thursday!!

Ya 2ed season ended Sunday and 3rd don't start till Saturday, by the looks of things were in for a deep winter.:D

I am pretty sure the law only applies to "off road" riding, but I could be wrong. This is how I have understood it but that will not matter in the end. It seems to me that if you are on the road you could drive your sled anytime of the year just like you could a truck for some parts of the year. what difference does it make on the road. for sure no riding wherever you want on less than 12 inches. just my opinion

I'll be heading into north park for third season. I like some snow for hunting, but this could get ridiculous :face-icon-small-dis
