First ride, First avy of the year

I win a swift kick in the a$$.

I will definately be wearing my beacon every time out now.

I got that kick in 07, hadn't rode in years and got a real sled and was told I would be fine. didn't have a beacon, next thing I know I saw a mist of snow go flying past, I pinned the throttle and got slammed into the handle bars, somehow I out ran the avy (sled would go 100mph easy and it was tach'd out), and out of control, for a while I couldn't even see, shot out of the avy at the bottom, hit a very small ditch and went air born. I don't know how I knew to hit the throttle or how I held onto the sled. I figure it was my one and only warning. I Had no idea on any level, lucky and never again. Been leery of loaded slopes ever since. (and that one wasent even loaded)
No Beacon = No Ride

I would highly suggest taking a avy course saying I will ride in the trees for awhile isnt really a fix. The beacon is there to recover you not there to protect you. Knowledge knowing not to ride certain areas what to look for in a slope is what is going to save you. If your helmet is on so should your beacon.
