Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
Well I rented a 2008 700 RMK yesterday and loaded up the old 2006 700 RMK and went out to enjoy the steep and deep in Cooke city Montana.
I we worked out a few issues on my rmk and got it running a little better. We started the day of hard and before we knew it our day was ended by a blown coolant line (air box rubbed a hole in the return line on top the engine). But it was 4:30 when that happened so you could say we had a good ride.
Some differences between the sleds
08 700 RMK
A lot more crisp throttle response
Steers much easier going down hill
Feels a little lighter, it seams to flat a tad easier
Better overall Boondocker then the 06 middle
Allot quicker on the trails
AMAZING running boards!
Better skis... WAY better
Very flick able, feels like a 500 121, not a 155 mountain sled. But almost to much, I am used to muscling around our 06 700’s and I got myself in trouble a few times by throwing the sled over to far.
Locked up track a little easy, brakes were pretty touchy jumping and going down hills
06 700 RMK
Allot more torque, i could pop power wheelies up hills and could not on the 08
Got up to speed slower, but from 20+ felt the same
Climbed a little higher, with a shorter track, 151x2 Vs 155x2.4
Felt more front heavy
Sits down a little lower in the front and didn't feel as plush landing jumps
Felt more stable breaking drifts, wasn't as easily thrown off track
Didn’t stop as fast
Was an overall better sled due to the power wheelies
Both sleds were a blast and no doubt the 08 was better on the trails and over all, especially when going down hill. It felt lighter, was quicker and looks better. Would I spend $12000 for it? Well no, and I wouldn't pay $6000 either, but it was defiantly fun. It really doesn't have the shoulder hurting torque of the 755Ci Polaris and it would not provide the power wheelies I do on my old sled.
Some other things I didn’t like on the 08 were that you needed Allen wrenches to pull off the side panels. Also, the seat seamed to push you towards the front of the sled more then the 06 and when you hit your knees against the sled, the hard aluminum hurts more then the less hard plastic on the 06.
Overall, if you have the money, buy it. If you work hard for all you’re money and you are still short on it, get a used 06 or 07 and do a few mod sot make it run just as fast if not better and you will be ahead of the game.
Ohh yeah, and how can anyone rent a sled and not jump it? Hear is a pic of me just outside of cook jumping over the high way. It’s the only pic my friend took so please enjoy, and sorry I don't know how to upload.
