First impressions of the Nytro??

rode mine for the first time this weekend on a couple of feet of fresh. first impression was how comfy it was on the trail (sitting or standing). i'm still stock for now, but even on a tight motor the low end is as good as my apex for the first few hundred feet. in the pow, it is, by far, the most effortless sled i've ever thrown around. totally forgiving and super responsive. we had a new XP-X package out, some M8s, and an M1000 and we all took turns on each others machines. everyone wanted to sell their sleds and get the nytro...i'm not kidding. i rode the XP-X 154" and really liked it. it doesn't roll over as easy as the Nytro but it felt really solid and had good power (again, with a motor that isn't broken in yet.)

the stock shocks on the Nytro, like the Apex, are to soft for the front end weight and roll on off-camber turns on the trail. i tightened the springs down as much as possible which helped, but fox floats are on the way. Yamaha should have just shipped the Nytro with those anyway and charged a little more for the sled IMO. the only other knock is the 7 gallon fuel tank. i did get a 62 mile ride in on sunday and barely made it back to the truck but did no hillclimbing due to thin snow. also, the sled does need boost if you're going to be serious about hillclimbing. totally stock, it is the funnest sled i've ever owned but kicking it up to 200+ on the ponies is a must for me.

two thumbs and a woody way up (to quote veedy). :)

what else have you guys heard, seen or felt?

I rode Julie Marquarts a couple weeks ago on the first ride out.( fresh motor ) I like how much bottom end it has and how it rides.

I rode my dads 154 xp as well. In my opinion the nytro and xp ride quite simalar. both like a cadilac :)

I do think that the nytro needs more wind protection, the xp as well.

All in all though i think that the nytro is a great all around sled! :)

I rode one too. Wanna feel? Stiffen the front shock on the rear suspension 3 notches. Made a difference on the one I rode. Dealer never touched setup out of the Box

I got to spend the day with a Nytro this weekend as well. Bone stock except it had my Better Boards installed. While it isn't my IQ RAW for feel it was actually quite impressive. Felt strong and remarkably smooth. Pulled like a not good running 660 or a really good 600 but ran out of legs a little soon. Still felt like a big sled (and it is) for my liking but really easy to handle. Very instantly comfortable. Fun on the trail but the front shocks were too soft so it die dowed around a bit plus was horribly lazy in the front shocks and full tilt was not scary fast enough to suite me. It was a borrowed shop sled so I didn't really get after it too much but this is not a jumper or a bump thumper he he . Looking forward to riding one with some real power in deeper snow. Great over all sled for the masses from a mom and pop ride to a sled that you can spend silly money on and go climb it all. Reminded me of my first ride on the prototype Apex for smooth easy handling but more like the littler vector with a bunch more snap. They are sure moving in the right direction.

Would I own one. Not just yet as it bothers me to think that I'd really have to pretty much throw away everything except the motor to make it the way I'd want it for my everyday rider. That motor and feel in an IQ RAW...WOOOO that would be the ticket. Dang I hope I ain't getting old but just turning a key and having it go VROOM VROOM made me happy in a naughty way!

Great review, Jeff. And I would have to agree with the woodie part. My Nytro is a fun little buggy, can't wait to get some boost under the seat.

:beer;

Saw a nytro in the mountains a few weeks ago.... it was looking like it was doing well until he hit an off camber jump and landed it sideways and sheared the front suspension bolts..... track grabbed the rails and took it right out of the sled. The good thing tho is that the dealer that sold it to him <northern power sports> came out with a sled, a few apex mountains and a VK to drag him back out, thought that was damn nice of them. I talked to a guy over there last week about it and they were just shaking their heads. Didnt know it it was going to be covered....
