Finger Throttle options?

Hi,
I like the idea of using my finger to pull the throttle. I turned the original 180 and found it was to large. I then modified it alot, but iam still no happy with it.

who makes finger throttle?
 
I don't use one (yet)... BUT...

The Powermadd blocks that I've referred my friends to ... work really well for finger throttles and are easy on the pocket book ($55)... The lever fits well on the finger.

Before you ask... NO ... it does not accommodate the TSS.... You will need a tether and disable the TSS function.

Bicycle parts

When I rode with a cast on my throttle hand I had to use a finger throttle. I went to my local bicycle shop picked out a very nice fully adjustable brake lever mount and lever combo. A little trimming on the length of the lever and it bolted right up. Even the factory knob on the throttle cable fit right into the brake lever with no modifications. Super simple and clean, also completely reversible when you decide to sell or whatnot. Like mountainhorse said though no freeze up safety switch so you better have a tether.
 
That Munster one looks pretty nice. At first it looks pricey.. but there was a lot of thought that went into it... strong looking and has a heater built in... pretty nice....

In comparison, a replacement Polaris factory lever with heater, for example, is over $60... this is for just the plastic thumb flipper with heater.

You can maintain a much better grip on the bars when your monkey thumb is wrapped around them.

on point, I have no idea how the hell these stupid thumb throttles became standard, why do you want half of your hand gripping the bars when we have the HP that we do? 50 hp on a sled I understand, 150 and im over it.
I slipped my hand off quad bars back about 10 years ago, messed my self up good, broken collar bone, hyper exteneded leg, because of the quad throttle leaving half my hand in the air just like the sled throttle, I flipped my throttle around first ride on the pro chassie, control and feel is second to none.

the munster looks to be the ticket, the problem with powermad or stock Polaris is with the pivot point behind the bars it shoves the throttle into youre hand, making it a 2 finger operation, the munster has the right idea.
 
With the type of riding we have in Colorado I wouldn't think that would be safe. I could easily see the sled pinned at the wrong time when navigating the tight trees.

^^^That was my first thought.
Plus I've ridden race quads and snowmobiles my whole life and have never had an issue with thumb throttles...hell I've never even given it a thought. Lol.
Now I have had issues with twist throttles before and am not a big fan of them. Never tried a finger throttle or even heard of them. Who knows maybe I'd like it but just seems weird to me.
 
Most people that I've seen with the finger throttle are stand up riders and the lever itself faces nearly downward....

If you had ever raced ovals or even XC you would understand why we have thumb throttles. When you are hanging off the seat to one side, with your *** on the ground, AND trying to get your body forward, you have to roll your hand on the bars- and a finger throttle most certainly will not work.

I do see where they might work nicely on a mountain sled though. Our body positioning is quite different in that application.

Your brake lever rides out front, and is much larger than the finger throttle. How many times have you gone over the bars because the brake lever hit a tree? For me that would be never.

I think I am going to try it. How much hassle is it to get the Munster in the states?

Well I'm another guy that was very apprehensive about finger throttles last year when I saw a guy doing that .......but after turning my block around and experimenting a little bit I like it a lot! (2011 pro)(these comments are also meant for stand up riders versus road) (hand angle variation). But! like other guys explained it works but it isn't meant to be that.... so it feels kinda weird.....so ive been researching these other companies you guys have been posting so I thought I'd offer some info.
Personally the "munster" to me is engineered for snowmobiles in mind...the smaller one finger design is engineered to be easy to use and even a finger warmer...why not right!.........
This morning I called up to Canada to talk to the owner/designer Andrew ....he sounds like a great guy that is an avid sledder and like some of our local designers has made a product made by sledders for sledders!
Ya... so I'm pumped about about this product. We discussed that he only has them available for the doo's at the moment and even though he said they can work on poo's it requires some mods on the throttle cable.....but! the Polaris one is scheduled out at the end of January as he had received enough demand for the pros.
We are lucky enough to go up to pemberton a couple times a year to the ice fields so ill be stopping in for mine as he is located next to the village.
I was hopin that maybe a doo guy or two that is in this forum has tried one and can comment? and plan on going over to their forum in a bit to peek around an ask.
 
I've only heard of one Brake lever hitting a tree and that was in the Iron Dog race. The result was catastrophic enough that they were forced to drop out of the race. It put the brake on so hard and fast that it exploded the chain case and ripped the brake caliper off of the case. That was just the damage to the sled. He did not fair any better, but I don't remember his exact injuries.

Regardless, as I stand up most of the time, both my brake and when I try the MPM finger throttle both will be mounted in a forward but substantially downward plane.
 
After a couple days with pain in my finger, it has now gotten strong enough to where its easy to pull the throttle.
It feels so much better to have a strong grip on both hands. I'm much more confident on my sled and it is somehow making me less fatigue.

It happen to me once when a branch pinned the throttle, but it wont send the sled to the moon. it only last for a second til it lets go. Sounds scary when you read it. But I'm not worried it will wreck my sled.

Don't think I'll ever go back to thumb throttle.:face-icon-small-coo
