I know its not a recall which it should be, but I talked to the owner of my dealership and she gave me the BRP Tech Bulletin on the shafts. They posted a race tech bulletin telling the racers how to fix their shafts so they don't break. Note that at all race tracks, BRP machines are not allowed to compete unless they have been welded as it is safety concern!!!!! WTF!!! Recall this sh*t.... I love BRP but are they serious..!! I consider mt use as bad or worse than race conditions...

notice how this is drilled.....just thru the tubing and not thru the collar..if you drill thru the collar it will weaken the weld...I ride a poo but I feel for you guys...I would be at the dealer demanding a different shaft due to safety issues.this shaft puts you and everyone who rides with you at risk(you getting hurt on it and them getting hurt trying to help you if you do have problems).

Notice the Disclosure though....

To be done by highly skilled race mechanic.... and voids vehicle warranty and BRP is not at fault for any injuries

I think I'll just roll the dice every time I go out on the XP and wait for BRP to bring a better shaft to the table on a recall. Looked at a couple failed yesterday, looks to me like a little thicker tube or higher tinsel strength metal and a couple pentrated spot welds would fix the issue.

Not for non-racers! ONLY TO QUALIFY TO RACE ON THE TRACK!

Keep in mind this is ONLY for the race teams, or they will not be allowed to hit the track. It is not a "fix" for us. Might wanna read the bulletin a little closer. :face-icon-small-win

check with YOUR dealer

I was asking mine a couple of times a week about it and he finally told me last week that he had spoken to someone at BRP and it was ok to go ahead and weld it and I would still have warranty. Once he told me that the shaft came out and was welded.

My dealer knows absolutely zero about this issue even though he has had atleast 1/2 a dozen broken or twisted shafts in his shop
I also give him the new belt number so he could order them.
Getting me a new dealer

Broken Shaft

I can't believe they are telling the race teams to weld their shafts, but the guys like us that spend $10,000.00 or more get the SHAFT. BRP better make this right soon, I see them dropping the ball sending out that Service Bulletin for racers, but no info for us normal folk. Just my thoughts.

Local dealer here is removing drive shafts and welding them as per BRPs instructions. My friend just had his done yesterday. Contact your dealer and have them call BRP.

The racing organizations are telling doo riders they have to have their shaft welded in order to compete. No welded shaft, you can't race.
I am sure they made that rule just because of "internet hype".

Probably another one of those engineering pitfalls here - if they build it too heavy/durable to begin with it will never fail and they don't know how much lighter they can make it. If they make it lighter to begin with, then they can see how it holds up and where it needs a little more strength when things start breaking.

I think this is where R&D and testing is supposed to kick in, so you DON'T have to be the test subject!

Since it's very clear the engineers at BRP have there heads shoved way up there ars. Perhaps the Skidoo engineers should consider a stomach mod which would include the installation of a window in there stomach so they can see out.

OT

They will offer it as a performance part. (for agressive riders) then charge you through the arse and make money while doing it too.

Mit or Mit out sand??

Slim2002, find a new dealer, someone who is informed!!
I dealt with Martin Equipment once, and asked for the racing rings, to replace the flaking stockers on a friend's rev...they looked at me as if I was from mars...and said..
"we have had no problems with flaking rings" , that was the last time I ever walked into their doors..
I went to Riverside in St. Albert, and the guy behind the desk had the part # memorized

lol

I think that is the first thing dealers are trained to say from BRP...

I NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING BEFORE......YOU ARE THE FIRST ONE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
Went to my purchase dealer last year to talk to him about the crappy clutches on the 07, he looked at me witha far off look and told me i was the only one burning belts and melting rollers.....I then asked to purchase another belt and i was told that they were backordered.

He made himself look very stupid.

Havnt been back to my dealer that i purchased from since.

Dealer welded mine up free of charge on 1/29/08. They said BRP is paying 1.5 hours shop time. Check with your dealer guys.

This bulletin is unbelievable. Best I can figure, it doesn't matter if you have this done by a professional mechanic or not, it still is going to void the warranty. And let's see, they also say that if you use your sled for racing, your warranty is toast. And then they procede to say that if you do what they are recommending, that riding the sled most "anywhere" after you do this to the sled, may be illegal. Why don't they just come out from the very beginning & say, "our sleds are not worthy to be race sleds". Another issue- I'm pretty new to this forum, but is there some kind of threat of being sued or something for naming dealers that won't give us straight answers about issues with these sleds? I've approached mine about this issue, (talked to him on 01/25/08) & he sure doesn't know about any notice from BRP. I'm getting the fealing that he isn't quite as "proactive" as I'd like to see him be. I don't think anybody feels like breaking down out in the boonies. It sure would be helpful to actually get a dealer name from these "excellant dealers" that are taking care of their customers, when someone says that their dealer has the info to fix this,AND are even getting paid for it.Then we can take said info to our dealer a get some answers. And then procede to BRP with a formal complaint about lack of service from our dealer. He get's pissed when I tell him I read about this or that on snowest--now it's my turn to get pissed when I find out he isn't taking care of me. In all fairness, only have 280 miles on my 154 everest, & have had no belt, hand warmer or any other issues at all. I do believe that it's because it was set up properly before I got it-thank you very much!! Absolutely love this sled. But, I'm a mechanic by trade, & it's all about that proactive thing!! Jay B.

Void the warranty??? Dealers are welding and BRP is picking up the bill. Don't see how they could deny warranty coverage on this one.

That is not a factory BRP service bulletin...that is a race dept tip sheet. The real factory bulletin look much different.
