Finally- a trail fix that works

Let us know when avaibable for purchase

They look good and are more complex than I expected. The coating would be a nice addition for the spring rides coming up, to help stop the snow from sticking.
I will get an order together from the guys who will still be riding into May.
Looking forward to easer trail manners.

Without any hardened runner on there, what happens when you hit something hard like a rock, stump or pavement? Won't it potentially hook under the said obstruction?

Explorer ski

I have was running the Explorer ski on the 2moto last year and then switched it to the Mountain Horse this year. It performs better than either stock or fat skis with shark fins, both on the hard pack and the powder. Let me know when you have the Explorer version ready it would be great to have an improvement.

One down side to the Explorer ski is that open area in the metal snow runners on the outside middle of the ski. They can catch on small trees and rock and give you a ride off the bike.

thanks, ms

Thanks for posting those pics and info.

We've been torn on the 'hardened' issue. Metal vs. rock never ends well for metal.
I've not tested whether carbide grabs rock more or less than unhardened steel. I usually end up testing my handstand get-off technique in the ski vs. rock encounters. I do have a riding buddy that's replacing a fork leg right now- and he had the aggressive stud boy carbides on when he went over a rock...

We don't have an Explorer ski to test with- if anyone has one we could borrow for a week or two that would speed things up. The basic design will transfer over really well- it would just be a matter of mount durometer, height, and ramp angles. Because of the Explorer ski's tendency to 'banana', I suspect our design would help strengthen the front section. I could only imagine how well a solid mounted Gen 2 with our mod would work on a Hawk. Exciting!

I'll hopefully have more production news later this week.

Wondering if any considerations are being made about the different fork "rake" angles between the different bike makes. It's the first thing I notice when switching between these two....the Honda tends to wheelie when going up hill & the Yamaha sticks better cornering....speaking packed conditions.

Saw one in action today. Good improvment!!

Blaser,
Rode with a friend today with your ski mod. He had a Gen II (fat ski) on a MountainHorse KTM.
I was on a MountainHorse KTM with the stock Simmions and the 2Moto shark fin (short).
First off on the icey trails your mod WORKS! I was passed and he was at least 10 mph faster. He was sliding the bike using the throttle in the corners and the fat ski was sticking.??
Later, in the powder I saw no "push" in the front end, as is common when riding when riding with a fat ski.
On the side hill we both were equal but again I did not have the fat ski. I know the stock ski sticks the side hill better. I see no down side sidehilling.
Now the bad news. As you already know. Once the temps warmed up and the snow got stickey, I did see his ski loading up. We all had some sticking problem but it seemed worse (as I would expect) with the mod.
I pack WD 40, so when this happens, clean off the ski and give a spray and most of the issue goes away.
Let me finish by saying..... I WANT ONE!!
Just my 2c

You mean that you will not make any more than this limited build? Why not?
We are several people that still has not understood if the mod fits also on the 2moto skii for example?

Rob

Since the snow does not come back until december here in Sweden, I will wait until autumn and order then. Hopefully we will be a few more who will also want the kit. :face-icon-small-coo

Since this kit attaches to the bottom of the ski, it is not affected by the rake of the forks. The steering feel of the different bikes is still going to be there, it just won't have the darting and the white knuckle grip on the handlebars.

"Trail Rider" Ski Mod is up on the Website

Guys,
We got the Ski Mod up on the website and ready to ship, here is the link. http://www.promotobillet.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/166/products_id/565
This "Trail Rider" ski mod will change the way you look at that long trail ride to get to the "good stuff"! It really is amazing how it makes the darting dissappear and returns control to your front end...it feels just like a dirt bike. Get yours now, you will love it!

I think you have the right idea. The front ski needs to have a more tire like shape to be able to turn at all on hard pack. Just a few questions, what is the runners made of and do they launch you over the bars a lot. Seem VERY aggressive and like it you caught a twig or something it would want to stop you very fast.

The metal runners are made of Stanless Steel. It would be nice to put carbide on them at some time in the future. In all of our testing we have not experienced any out of the ordinary grabbing or sticking on branches or rocks.
Most of the time when I go over the bars, it is because I am running the Gen1 ski and I land in a soft spot and bury the front end. In most conditions, i like to run the Gen 2 ski because of the superior floatation it provides.

Are these still available for sale?
You win for oldest thread brought back to life. I scrolled back through it but couldn’t even figure out what you’re actually looking for. Are you trying to find a better ski?

Lol. I was asking in regards to the product being talked about /offered in the first few posts. Its was an upgrade to snowbike ski.
But after inquiring about my ski in another post https://www.snowest.com/forum/threads/timbersled-ski-upgrade-options.452295/
it appears this upgrade wouldnt work anyways.

And yes I am looking for a used snowbike ski
