Finally!!! A review of the '13's!!

Doo really screwed up this year by not getting enough demo rides out to people before snowcheck. Their demo riding is next month for us. I want to snow check a sled soon so I can sell mine. They lost my purchase. I wish I could buy both.

depends where you are.. there isnt a polaris demo ride around me western canada, dont see why its a huge market here.. and i havnt heard anything about poo demo up here .couldnt pay to demo a 13 up here... pisses me off.

meanwhile theres xm demo rides everywere you look here.. i could get on the xm any given weekend if i wanted..

There will be no comparison when Polaris unveils a new reliable 800 with 165 HP. It is the best mountain sled and cross over sled now and it has 10 less HP. There is no arguing the chassis but they need drop a 165 HP motor in the Pro Ride IMO.

Problem with that is that they need at least 2-3 years to prove their motor is "reliable", which is a relative term in the snowmobile industry.

Probably has something to do with where they are made! No worries on my side, I'm checking a 2013 Pro.

Dan, the 16 wide track is part of the problem with doo and why they have always been more work to sidehill than cat or poo. No different than narrowing up your ski stance an inch. It is only a 1/2 inch on each side but it makes a big difference. I'll take the 15 wide. What you lose isn't worth the gain.
Im going to have to agree to disagree on this one. They way i look at it is the way the pro handles, the extra width would barely change the side hill ability of it. The extra 1'' would be very noticable in flotation and traction. The very reason Mark is going to the hours and hours of labor to make them accept 16. Thats why i think Polaris should at least make the tunnel able to spin a wider track, for guys that would go that direction. Not in the least going to bash the pro, its a great sled. The track is just one of three things being the deal breaker for me. If we could ALL take everything we liked from each manufacturer, and put them into one sled, it would be closer to a perfect world, but... JMO We can discuss this further on a spring ride this year. Call me when you see the snotel jump.:face-icon-small-hap Cheers!

You honestly think by the time Polaris makes 165hp that rotax will be the same as today. Rotax has always been the best two stroke and always will be.

Suzuki builds the best motor hands down in my opinion. The Rotax has a track record nearly as bad as the Polaris.

I do give props to Rotax for stepping up their game though over the last few years. Seems like they have really attempted to make them more reliable.

Everything is a trade off. Wider track, wider tunnel and boards which hang up more sidehilling. Narrower track less flotation, skinnier sled equal better sidehilling. So much of this is personal preference too. I am also beginning to think the type of snow you ride is specific to sleds too. My Doo works better in heavier wet snow like we ride in the NW and BC. The Poo likes the light fluffy stuff. We all like what we like. Doo and Poo just feel different and you have to put your time in on the sled you don't feel immediately comfortable on to see how good it is. I feel REALLY fortunate(blessed really) to be able to have one of each coming on snowcheck.
All of my crew prefer the Doo(me too) but I still love to ride the Pro. It is just different. One thing I really like is that it is made in America(don't go splitting hairs on me here either).

Rotax...the best 2 stroke? Are you making a lol?

=p

Obviously I was a Doo guy once upon a time, and the XM may bring me back...if it looses some weight?

But I would never call a Rotax engine reliable.. I've seen, heard of, or caused way too many failed 800 Rotax's [yes, even stock]...thats a big reason I'm not on Doo anymore. But I'm hoping that something has changed with the Etec.
My Liberty has let me down...so I'm not claiming a Pol/Liberty engine is reliable here either.

Unless its a 4 stroke [Yamaha], I can't call it reliable.

My old turbo Nytro was the only sled that made it through a few seasons with out needing an engine rebuild of some sort.. However, I've yet to own a Cat/Suzi..

VERY well said.

Suzuki is out in 2 years or so. Cat will have to counter with their own engine (built at thier ATV angine plant) or something else. That is a big wild card.

Actually, if you cut the outer 1/2" of lugs off a 16" track, you get the benefits of both - it flat out works and even Camoplast has gone that way for their Challenger Xtremes.

Have FUN!

G MAN

Thanks for the tip, I cut mine right after your post and it really helped the side hilling and no negatives on floatation. I can't read my speedo but it feels faster as well. I also noticed less track snow build up.
