I have done the case mod on my 04 liberty 800 for big bearing crank...NOW...would it be wise...and or has ANYBODY...ever tried to fill in the spaces in the top and bottom half with JB weld for case strength?.....OR....WILL THIS CREATE TOO MUCH HEAT??........Indy dan where are you??

yup we have never had a issue, SLP did this on the 903 racemotors as well, jbs pretty tough stuff. We have also plasma spray welded up the cylinder as well so its just barely a snug fig into the case, figured cant hurt touching for more renforcement in this area. My friends who repair aircraft turbines had the welder, amazing machine you can add as little as .0001 of metal for bearing fits ect.

Do you really want to be in the backcountry wondering if the Glue will let go... Jus sayin

jb goes on outside

just to confirm...I want to fill the voids on the outside of the cases no jb on the inside...this is for strength and case flex....I will post a few pics when im done....also have pics of the case mod complete

you can also mix in some aluminium chips in the jb, it will make the epoxy stronger as well.

Jb weld

Im going to clean and scuff with my die grinder bud drilling my be a bit much ...i will take a pic

So, you're going to fill in the space between the fins that cool the case, so that the cooling fins can no longer function. I see. It doesn't sound like a good idea.

In My Opinion JB weld is Garbage and serves no purpose at all, EVER!

For what You are trying to do, it will not work. You'd be far better off going a one piece engine plate if rigidity is the goal. My 2 cents

For the jb weld haters, I've seen a cracked cylinder jb welded at 7000 miles and I saw that sled run past 13,000 miles. Pretty tough stuff in my book. It was a 1991 Indy 500 for anybody that was curious.

heres some pics of SLP's 903 all out race motors , note the JB weld used to fill the voids and strengthen the cases (these motors made over 200 hp, billet stroker cranks ect) we did this all the time, ZERO issues

The reason for SLP using epoxy on the inside case voids is not so much for strength but for more surface area for the base gasket. The porting hogs so much of the original material away with out the epoxy you would blow base gaskets all the time. Struthers motor did the same thing. As far as the outside unless you are making a repair I'd say the engine plate is the better way to go.

Nice porting

Yes i did notice the sweet porting in thecases...and yes holy **** there is not much stock material left in the transfer port area...this thing must snort!!....id love to see the cylinders!!....any pics.?....got my jb weld inthe cases now and hope this thing stays together!!....ported cylinders and will give cases a good go!...building engines is sooo much fun on christmas day!!

Update on engine build

Sled is running great after crank mod and case mods....2 days at the big hills and no leaks or hickups....after a hard ride case temp is warm to the touch but not too hot...just wanted to share
