Feel like a jerk

Recently sold my m7 to another user and found out it had a problem i never cought. I guess from talking to him on the phone the front suspension arm is severly bent? I never saw the problem or it would have been fixed anybody ever seen this?? I looked up the part and its around 170 dollars so not to bad but still feel like a A$$. I sold him the sled at what i think is a awesome price but still. Sorry Mike wish i would have known.

I sold an 07 xrs to a guy on here. It ran awesome. it had the normal doo motor troubles but had a new short block. 1100 on motor and 2600 miles on sled. I even had my dealer check it out and change jets because I had it leaned down too much for wisconson. i even had them change the chain case oil. I wanted to make sure he got what I said it was. He found a couple of minor things that I didn't know were broke, such as brake switch. He sounded extremely happy with the sled. The first ride out he made it 8 miles before sticking a piston. I'm not sure what the problem is. I talked to him and told him to keep me in the loop. I didn't want him to think I sold him a piece of junk but when you ride something for 8 miles and it blows up you kinda think you got screwed. It just sucks.

Whatayadoo?

I bought a sled in good faith about 10 years ago and I couldnt get started to get it off the trailer after I picked it up. No compression on no.1 cyl. I went to the owner (a friiend) and he gave me $300 bucks. I dont think he tried to deceive me and I was reluctant to tell him but whatayadoo?
If you dont want to feel like an "a$$" it will only cost you $170. Offer to split it with him if you truly feel like you should have disclosed it to him. If you dont this will bother you for many years to come, trust me

Just found out it wasn't a piston it was the crank. A doo with crank problems. Imagine that. No "r" stamped on motor so they gave me the same crappy motor again. I might just have to buy the sled back or a motor. I just feel wrotten about the whole deal. I guess I'll see what doo will do.

I bought a 99X in 2001 and the same thing happen to me, first ride out and the crank went on it. Kind of the chance you take when you buy used. It was really a bummer because when I took the crank in the rebuilder said it wasn't a stock crank, but has been modified somehow. I called the guy who sold it to me but he denied every having the engine aprat. I was hoping he would split the cost with me but he didn't.

I sold a king cat for a killer deal a couple years back and it had a bent a-arm
I sent him the money for a new one. He had the labor of fixing it. So I feel that was fair. But on the other hand when you buy a used sled that is what it is a used sled. Just my 2 cents.

Was on a trip out to Island Park last year and ran into a guy at shotguns that was from Minnesota that was looking for a sled due to his blowing up. Sold him my XP X as that was my standby and after he gave me the cash saw him in the bar that night and had issues with it all day. Gave him his money back and found out after I got it home the DPM module went bad. Oh well, felt better him not having to deal with it than me keeping the cash.

That does suck and I'm not about screwin anybody over. I'd offer up to split the 170 and labor is on him. If he bought it used and didn't see it, that's partially on him too since he had his own eyes on it. Try to make the best of a shtty situation and help make it good.

When I bought my 03 Escape used, first ride out it was ratcheting horribly. Did some research on SW and pulled the speedo drive off to find a trashed driveshaft bearing and shaft (common problem on the Poo). I called the owner and told him about it, and that it would be about $300 to fix it. He sent me a check for the parts, I replaced them all, and life was good.
I'd say you didn't do wrong by the buyer, crap happens. Buy him an a-arm and call it good if it makes you feel better about it.

I bought a 96 XLT 650 in 98. 3 rides and the engine seized. $600 repair bill.
I bought a 02 edge in 05 2 rides later blew the crank $2,800 to fix it.
I bought a 07 M1000 at the start of last season, 300 miles later top end granaded. $800 later. In all three cases I called the previous owners and they just laughed. I know a used sled is a used sled but if I was the seller I would help out a little bit. I hope they sleep good at nights.

You cant feel like a jerk if the guy has already taken it for a spin. If you never saw it or noticed a performance change, and he never saw it earlier, than he probably did it himself.

A twisted a arm is easy to spot. Any broken paint on the welds is a tell tail sign of a tweak somewhere... but let me tell you, sometimes it really doesn't take much

buyer beware

When it comes to snowmobiles they get abused. When you look at them and the owner it tells the story right there.Sometime you get lucky sometimes you don't.They are mechanical so they do break down...If you spit the cost that is better than most. That is why it's stated AS IS when sold good luck!:D

a couple of seasons ago i sold my ride for $6500, it was a good sled, 1500 miles, nothing wrong with it, or i would have fixed it.....guy had it about a month when the engine went down.....i wrote him a check for the $6500 and asked him where i could pick it up....he looked at the check and handed it back, no he said, it was a good price on the sled, i have it at the dealer....i like the sled, i'll just have it fixed....as it turned out, the dealer found a way to warranty the engine on account it was just barely out...:D

lots of good opinions on here. it is a used sled, and it is a high performance machine and definitely gets run hard, so if ur buying a used sled u cant expect it to be brand new and with warranty. its up to you to look it over, run it, and make the call. But there might b hidden issues that only the longtime previous owner know, and i think its only fair if he discloses that befoer the cash swaps hands. also there may be problems with the motore that no one honestly know, and u might have bought it at the absolutely worst time....right before it breaks, and thats not really anyones fault. So, if ur buying used, do your part and inspect it to what ever degree u feel comfortable, and if your selling used, b honest about it or it will come back to haunt you.
my humble .02

I agree. In addition $170 for a A-arm? were they made of gold?
I bought a sled of this site and got the "Awesome Sled" speech and fell for it. First time out (and all year) Bog Bog Bog Bog. BUYER BEWARE and ride before you buy. Leason Learned (the hard way :)

Thanks Again, I was with on that trip. Jeff was greatful that you took the sled back. Then he rented the rest of the week and got to test out the other brands.

I saw the guys post about the M7 and it sounded like he did'nt have much money to work with to fix it up. Country cat at Sauk Center is only about $75 for the arm and $15 for the aluminum axle for inside it.

oh i got a good one, had a 06 CRF450, freshly rebuilt by a suspect shop.....sold it after one ride and she ate the piston/head/valves/springs/timing chain the very first time the new owner rode it.....felt like crap, i payed for the fix cost in full.....so i basically sold a 4,500 bike for 2,500K....:(
