The view from the top (looking south)
Went down the backside again, and headed further North. Awesome time back there, no tracks, tons of great hills and boondocking.
Made it all the way to the last big peak before Weber Canyon. Here Craig points out the line to drop down to the West side.
Stopped to have lunch and hear a single sled coming over the ridge. Turns out to be Wade, a fellow Snowester that been looking for fellow mountain lovers to share in his enjoyment of the Farmington area. Not far behind him, the legendary Troy (more on that later). Both riding Polaris Dragons. I guess I was there to carry the Ski-doo flag for the day.
I had told Craig early in the day that this, being my first time north of the towers, that I wanted to put my mark on the west side. For those of you who have never ridden Farmington, the west side is the most challenging sledding in the state of Utah. Straight up, straight down (about 5000' to the valley floor), and has some very challenging side hilling (with some nice cliffs and trees to break your fall at the bottom). We came back on the west side exclusively (all the way back to the towers).
Never been so scared in my life. Let me just tell you that all of the guys I rode with (Craig, Wade and Troy) are all first rate riders. Troy though, is just short of crazy. He definitely earned my respect with his insane lines, and fearless sledding. Both Troy and Wade know the area like the back of their hands, so every shoot, drop, and cliff are negotiated with precision.
Didn't take any pics as we traversed the west side (no time to stop, and I was scared shi!!less).
But when we got to the base of the towers, we had a little break (Troy and I tightened our tracks (too much traction)), and contemplated going straight up to the towers.
Nope, can't go down...
Troy hits the face, looking to go over, but turns out just before the point of no return. Glacier like ice up on top. Not looking forward to riding his sled down the hill backwards I guess.
