false afr readings

i have a new afr aem gauge , it reads 16+ all day, i added fuel on my attuide box, no change, did i get a dud or do i have a problem. the turbo kit is a ovs pg on a m8 11, fuel pressure is 38 and elevation is 4000-6000.

If its reading 16 through all throttle positions it maybe screwed up, check plugs, pipe and piston wash to make sure you aren't to lean. You can buy a replacement afr probe at Napa Auto for $35, worth a shot. If you have added the max fuel on the box you can get more by raising fuel pressure....but you should have already seen the afr come down.

if it goes so rich its gurgling it will not read properly as there is unburnt fuel AND air in the pipe and it reads air.. how is the sled running?? or your sensor could be pooped.

Do you know the napa part number, mine reads right sometimes at idle then goes blank at wot and sometimes reads 10.# at idle.

Really....$35 bucks? That is good to hear. I have never found them for less than $65.

How many miles have you put on the sensor? What octane are you running? I've gone through 6 sensors in 4 seasons averaging between 450-600 mile mark before the readings start going false. If you're running higher octane these sensors just can't keep up! We run 110-114 mix and the sensors start showing 14.7. Probably have to get used to buying new sensors each year but if you're running the Bosch sensor in your aem it should have a 1 year warranty so we take our bad ones back in and get free replacements each time:face-icon-small-win

its a new kit, so probe is good, about 2 gallons of av gas added to 91 full tank. ive also was told the afr gauge will read lean on bottom end ,but how much throttle are we talkin before it should be reading correctly. I was so scared of burnin down i barely hit the upper revs, i did see 15.? once at higher rpms but i let of and it went of the charts.
this is my setup
4200'
green 1 yellow 1 red 3 than the rest at 5, 78 grm 38/36 torsion

if it runs without bogging then all you pay attention to is full throttle, just don't run down the trail at a consistent throttle.

so do we keep green and yellow at 1 because its close to stock settings and theres no boost down that low?

how about a digital gauge that you can read up to five things? what do you guys think of that?

I don't know how yours is programmed and which colors mean what. It also depends on the system and turbo size

Also, A/F readings mean nothing while decelerating, and getting OUT of the throttle. It will jump all over the place (mostly super lean). Its when you are accelerating, and holding a consistent throttle position that your reading have meaning. Low speed running i.e. 5 mph they will be lean as well.

carquest # 75-3327 for cadilac 04-05 cts 04-06 srx 05-06 sts

The cheaper one in the thread above is for a subaru forester 00-02 #75-2774 looks the same but its longer I think I might give it a try but its still $58 with the best discount. Would sure like to know the napa $35 part number and if it works

found another thread says that the 17018 or the 75-2774 wont work http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242622&highlight=aem+sensor, who knows. Now I am back to the expensive one.

Aem gauges and sensors have a unique calibration chip in the plug end of the sensor that matches the gauge it is shipped with.

They are sensitive to location, heat, moisture, high pressure, lots of things can go wrong... If you run the motor without the gauge running (sensor hot) it can foul the sensor, if you mount it below 10 degrees above horizontal moisture can collect in the sensor and foul it. Mounting it in a turbulent area can affect readings as well as if you mount it on the pipe side (pressure side) of the turbo.

Hope you get it figured out.
