163 HP (8100rpm) on a heat soaked motor with lower than recommended octane sounds pretty damn good for a production sled! 106 lb-ft at 7900-8000 rpm.

lower octane goes boom faster, the down fall to lower octane is that it is prone to pre detonation that can melt aluminum pretty quick. doesn't mean less power though.

exactly. i love how everyone thinks higher octane fuel makes more hp

Not sure anyone in this thread mentioned higher octane making more HP? I think its amazing that the sled was able to make the power it did--on lower than recommended octane--without the det sensor going off.

When I worked for A.C. these numbers are right in the ballpark of what engineering gave us in there 2010 year model presentation. One of the engineers said this is the most fun he has ever had building an engine. Can't wait until I can try one out!!!

With all the refinements to the M chassis in recent years and now the new engine, there's no reason the M8's shouldn't be Doo killers. I can't wait to see how they do on the hills.

Jeff at Funoutfitters you said you worked for Cat how does the relationship work as far as design and build between arctic cat and suzuki in the engine process.

Did anybody see what the updated polaris ran at?

09 used D8 with 2009 reflash 135.8 h.p

09 used D8 updated to 2010 specs including head
150 h.p , 97.3 ft/lbs. @ 8100 rpm

2010 spec with SLP exhaust
160.9 h.p., 103 ft/lbs @ 8200 rpm

Not bad for a Poo, but it still weighs more and has not proven to be reliable yet.
I hope they get them dialed in finally, competition is always good for the consumer. The Cat is still leaving some on the table. Should be easy to bump up into the mid 170's.:D
