F150 Tranny going bad?......Maybe not

I'm sharing this on the chance that it may help someone else trouble shoot.

When lightly accelerating in O.D. my '06 Supercrew would shutter.
It felt like the tranny was slipping.
Would only do it in O.D. & woulld seldom do it with the cruise on.

I hooked on my enclosed trailer ( to see if I could make it worse) & took a buddy who is a mechanic for a ride.

He was 90% sure that it wasn't the tranny or torque converter.
He said "I think that's a miss."
He hooked it up to his computer & it did not throw any codes.
He said "Change the plugs first."
He didn't want to do that himself & now I know why.
Anyway, had a different shop do the plug change, & $600 later everything works fine. ($600 well spent by the way. This is a job you cannot do yourself if you do not own an extractor kit)

My point is that I was sure I was looking at Tranny problems & simple spark plugs did the job.
Hope this helps one of you in the future.

the lisle extractor makes em a breeze. i would have suspected to see a coil failure first. The miss didnt set a code probably because it didnt reach the threshold of so many misfires per cycle. sounds like it only missed when you lugged it a little. good guess on the plugs if it fixed it :)

They broke their extractor on one of the back ones.

He suggested coils if the plugs didn't fix it.

You have to admit that their spark plug ordeal is really stupid!

it is yes but i've done plugs on those probably a hundred times already and never broke an extractor. 2hrs now tops, even if all 8 break. I guess thats what repetition gets you. Whats worse, I think, is the cost of the plugs! 10 bucks a piece, ouch!

thanks for the post, have a 06 f150 doing exact same thing. this one has 110,000 miles just curious what the other ones have for miles
