Expansion Pipe Shield cracking

The shield on my 2010 M8 is cracking in multiple locations.

Any creative ideas how to stop or reduce the cracking?

Some ideas I have are:

Apply some high temp silicone, like Permatex Copper, in and around the cracks to reduce vibration

Wrap the aluminum shield in those places with some fiberglass header wrap which I have. I would apply Permatex Copper to the cracks and immediate area, then wrap just those areas. Maybe apply a bead of the copper aound the shield to help prevent the wrap from moving.

Other ideas?

How's the insulation underneath the sheild? Every cat I've had does that once that useless packing ends up all over the engine compartment making sparkles.

I ditch that stock stuff immediately, wrap the pipe with lava rock pipe wrap, then put the heat sheild over that. Just make sure you flatten the edges of the heat sheild at the ends or else it will cut into the pipe wrap.

Wow, absolutely no insulation on the top half, not even a strand.

Took the bottom shield off and there was like a 6” square of insulation.

I wrapped the pipe with header wrap and installed the aluminum covers over that. The cover was a tight fit over the wrap but it worked.

Then I applied permatex ultra copper generously in and around the cracks as well as a 6” bead beween the lower and upper shield where they overlap.
