Exhaust pipe cracking

I have a 2005 900 RMK that i built a turbo system for. It has a 2871 garrett with a .86 exhaust housing. I cant get the pipe to hold together. Im running about 8 psi and it will hold together but above that it just blows at the welded seam. I have the seam welded all the way around. Any ideas or thoughts. Just went on my 4th ride on it yesterday and as soon as i turned the boost up to about 11 the pipe went. Any ideas or remedies? thanks

Sell it! Buy a 7 or an 8 and Turbo that. Seriously though, the stock pipe is about as heavy duty a pipe as you can buy off the shelf. There is a couple companies that will build you a custom pipe though. I believe there is a thread that lists some in the Skidoo turbo thread

Can you get another stock pipe, than cut it in half and double up the pipe and weld it all together, might be some work but it could be done, I know you have a tig welder so anything can be done.

Or just get some thin sheet metal and build your own half cone pieces and start doubling up your stock pipe.

Good thinking. I actually have another stock pipe. Ran 10 psi all day today and it ran awesome. Thanks for the input

Get that beast ready, That thing better pull like mine does with two people on it. HEHEHE:face-icon-small-hap

HAHA that was awesome. you just about threw me off the back. Im glad no one below had the video camera. : )

haha do I dare ask? Josh- I had an idea in regards to your pipe splitting and how to fix it. but I can't really explain it in plain text. I think it would keep from splitting apart anymore.

do you have a blow off valve on your pressure side. had the same problem till I put the valve on and that seamed to take care of it.

No i dont and would rather not run one. Not questioning your experience but how in the heck would a blow off valve effect the exhaust pipe? Just wondering. Thanks for the help

I will try to explain. your turbo is making 8-10 psi into the engine then you shut off the butterflys ( throttle ) closes all the way shut and were does the pressure go? It has no place to go so it now turns your turbo into a brake. So when it turns the turbo in to a brake you hear the turbo make a sound like a jet for a moment and that is the exhaust trying to go some where so your pipe is the weakest link BANG goes the pipe. you can make a heavier pipe then the next thing that is going to happen is it will find the next weak link. I hope I explained with out being rude. From being on a farm you might know what a spud brake or (exhaust brake is ). This is doing the same thing.

Gotcha, Thanks for the clarification. Never really though about the exhaust side doing that while compressor surge is taking place. Very logical. I have one that i ment to put on but never did. Time to go back to that idea

hey bud you will need to mod. your throttle bodies also if you want pics I can send them to you or the blow off valve will not work right.
