What is the purpose of the deflector shield in front of the exhaust outlet? Would it make a different if I took it off? It just seems like one of these days I something is going to hit it and rip a big chunk out of the belly pan.

It is supposed to deflect snow around the exhaust outlet so we don't get bog due to the exhaust being plugged up in deep snow conditions.....
Just leave it, chances are that whatever hits that deflector will have hit your A arms/Ski first.
