my question is in terrible road conditions, have you ever put chains on
your trailer when the road is like sheer ice? to keep the a$$ end from
comming around on you when braking?

4 place enclosed dual axle

What type of chains do you guys use, bands or an actual chain?

I've never thought about chaining up a trailer, but that could be the difference between sliding off I-80 in a blizzard and staying on the road ...

they call them drag chains, and YES!

In super bad pucker your seat up weather I'd chain all 4 on the truck and the front two tires on the trailer. (you always chain the lead axle on the trailer when doing drag chains)

I've had 3 railers on all 4 of my drivers, singles on both my steers and 3 railer drag chains on my trailer and wished to gawd I had more iron on. "unit 533 heading down the beaver slide" whooooooo butt pucker city baby!! Pickin the seat cover out of my teeth.

There ain't no stopping now, just guide er down the slide and hold on....KEEP THEM WHEELS ROLLIN BABY!!!

Yes - have chained the trailer up a couple of times to get down the
" Matterhorn " at Greenwater.

I bought them at Les Schwab. They are not the heavy link chain , but not a cable either. Works well - double axle , but if you have all four wheels with brakes - only need to do one axle. Just enough to grab and straighen it out if necessary.

I've had the wind blow my trailer right off into the ditch, it was blowing freezing rain sideways...mirror posts went from 7/8 inch thickness to cant fit your hand around it thick with ice. get way over in the rough stuff and keep er there

Great thread...

Where do you get trailer chains for the smaller tires on open tandem trailers?

Yup, for sure. I am thinking about Blizzaks w965 "E" for the trailer at the next tire change.
