This is your worst F' up. What the he11 are you using ether on that thing for?
You want to ruin that motor. I also have a 1991 f-350 and I have always had problems with it. It had a blown diesel in it when I bought it 'cause they used ether to try to start it. When you blow the motor let me know and I will come pick it up from you free of charge, I need some parts for mine.
charge up the batts then take the - battery cable off. put a test light between the cable and the battery post - side if it lights up even a little then you have something drawing on the battery and you will need to find out what. if the starter is bad they can do that.
If you want help with your ford check out thedieselstop.com great info on cold starts. Try thinner oil in the winter and check your Glow plug relay. You can use a screwdriver to short the (2) big terminals on the GPR if it sparks when your wait to start light is on your relay is shot.
The starter probably is shot, drawing too many amps.
I replaced mine last weekend along with the glow controller. Starts great
