ever had a POS truck?

i went to start my ford tonight and for some reason it wont hold a charge brand new batteries and alternator. just had it in the shop to look at the harness for shorts and nothing was found... i got fed up with it and threw a can of ether through the passenger window.

I had a 91 Ford F350 with a diesel. That thing was a POS. The only good thing about it was that it was a company truck. Free truck, maintenance, and fuel. It was constantly blowing the glow plug module. The starter was going out once, when I finally got it started I had to let it run for 5 days while I waited for a new starter. My wife made me park it down the street at night.:eek:

ROFL

I have a 95 Dodge Diesel and I too have problems with it, quite often!

right now I have the exact same thing happening, when it sits for a day or two it won't f'n start. I just cleaned all the batt terminals and when I get time I'll check and see if the batts are full of water, sounds like a dry cell or two to me.

If that don't work I'll pull the batts and have them load tested.

nice thing about having the older truck is I get 20MPG, its Paid FOR! cheaper insurance.

this is the cost of older rigs, gotta fart with em time to time. Just don't get angry and increase your work and $ spent on it.

I want to fix mine up someday, when I get outta debt :mad:

seen weird **** happen to batteries. definetly test them. if batteries are fine then something is drawing power when the key is out. get a gasser? probably more of a pain in the ***. diesels are way less complicated then a gasser imo.

This is your worst F' up. What the he11 are you using ether on that thing for?
You want to ruin that motor. I also have a 1991 f-350 and I have always had problems with it. It had a blown diesel in it when I bought it 'cause they used ether to try to start it. When you blow the motor let me know and I will come pick it up from you free of charge, I need some parts for mine.

charge up the batts then take the - battery cable off. put a test light between the cable and the battery post - side if it lights up even a little then you have something drawing on the battery and you will need to find out what. if the starter is bad they can do that.

I had one before my current 02 F250 7.3.

It was a 90 GMC K1500 4x4, 5 spd with manual transfer case. The truck was unstoppable in blizzards, mud etc. But it required constant maintenance. It would go through a rear U joint every 2-3 months and an idler arm at every oil change (once a year! LOL)

I blew the clutch out of it doing powerturns in a gravel lot. The truck ate two clutch slave cylinders too. The wife loves it when you call at 2am and say "Open the garage door, I can't stop the truck unless you want to push it in!" LOL! I've since installed remote openers ;)

The door hinges were sagging so bad that I'd put the jack under the door and lift it as far as the jack would allow, then leave it overnight to realign the door.

I had to drive it home with the rear driveshaft in the box once, locked in 4 wheel. Towards the end, it got ugly. The DS rear brakes bound up, so I took them all out and folded the brake line over. 3 wheel brakes ;)

The final straw was when I was towing my brand new Kubota tractor home from the dealer. Go figure, you spend 20k and your $20 dollar truck blows up on the way home :)

I noticed while pulling the tractor home that the truck had a hard time and seemed to be gutless. I let it run in 4th just screaming along. When I got home, my new tractor and trailer were covered in gear oil. I guess the gasket pushed out on the rear end. The differential was smoking under the truck. There was zero oil left. I filled it back up once it cooled and away I went. It ate an axle bearing the next day. I fixed it and sold it for next to nothing the day later before it got a second change to strand me somewhere.

The strange part is, I kind of miss that truck :) Most I ever had in the bed was 3800lbs. LOL

Could be worse... You could own a brand new chevy and spend a lot of time under the hood......

Yeah I had a not so nice truck before my current rig, actually I still have it. If I had a problem with it guess what? I figured out what was wrong with it and went and fixed it instead of tossing a can of ether through the window and b!tching on an online forum:rolleyes:

ditto, but i did have basically the same thing u describe happen on an old '73 pickup i had turned out to be all kinds of shorts under the dash, that was the only thing ive ever had to have fixed by someone else (im not real big on electrical stuff)

p.s. i hate to be one of them brand x vs. brand y guys but i recall in a post a couple weeks or so ago you and some other fella was gangin up on me and my chevy's and braggin up your fords and dodges, and well i couldn't help but notice just on the first page in fouled plug 3 or 4 topics about broken fords and dodges. ahhh thats karma right there:eek::beer;;) oh and i probably wouldn't have said anything but your probably the one who left me the unsigned eat **** message in the rep catagory over that whole deal.

peace out.:beer;

92 ford diesel POS money pit. Mine had a banks turbo charger, After replacing the tranny 3 times the motor once and countless frontends I got rid of it, I think it was the best day of my life, Are maybe that was the divorce.:D:beer;

If you want help with your ford check out thedieselstop.com great info on cold starts. Try thinner oil in the winter and check your Glow plug relay. You can use a screwdriver to short the (2) big terminals on the GPR if it sparks when your wait to start light is on your relay is shot.

Had a POS 1986 chevy Silverado. Constantly blowing the 700R4 trannies. I replaced the tranny 3 times, before I gave up on the crap. Bought a 1996 Dodge diesel in 1998, and have been happy ever since.

The starter probably is shot, drawing too many amps.
I replaced mine last weekend along with the glow controller. Starts great
I never use ether on engines.
