Ethanol --- its so amazing

10 years ago if you bought any kind of an interrnal combustion engine other than possibly a Yugo it had a very nice visible sticker on it warning you not to run ethanol or alcohol it it.

Did they re - engineer all of material in all engines ? No

Do they run as well ? No

I still have several of these including my SeaRay 220 ov 375hp 454 boat that has a warning sticker on it --

Warning do not use fuel that contains Ethanol !

So go buy some nice 110 octane SunoCo fuel, go down to the liquor store and buy a 5th of Tequlia and top off the tank on your new Snowmobile with with it.

Oh look how nice it mixes --- Shake it up real good now.

You have now ruined the fuel and the booze.

Insist on no Alchol in your fuel. This is such a scam.

Notice the price of you corn flakes lately ?

Come on chime in here -----------------

ethanol = dumb

ethanol was a terrible thought and an even worse idea. its not a sustainable reusable fuel and has much less energy than the same amount of gasoline. about 30-40% to be precise. in the end your burning somebody's food.

I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to bring this up. I remember growing up in MN and hearing all sorts of stuff about how ethanol was bad for 2 strokes in cold temps due to the characteristics of ethanol that allow it to be easily contaminated by water amongst other issues. Actually I think this is an issue that still exists, ethanol cannot be transported in our current pipelines because of the effect that water and other impurities have on it. So it requires new special pipelines such as what Brazil has to transport its sugar cane based ethanol fuels.

I hate ethanol, the fuel mileage of my 4.3L drops 30-40 miles a tank when I use that crap. How do I make sure I'm not getting any ethanol in my gas? Don't stations need to have a sticker on the pump that says "contains ...% ethanol".

it depends on where you are, Washington state does not require the pumps to be stickered the last time I checked. If your in or riding around the Walla Walla area (Tollgate, Bluewood) you can get non ethanol gas at Mike Spanish Conoco on Main St. I have personally talked to him. I have heard that the Farmer's Co-op also does not have ethanol but can't confirm other then word of mouth.

The stickers at the stations I go to say "May contain up to 10% ethanol" Maybe the gas has ethanol, maybe it doesn't. maybe it's 10%, maybe it's 3%. The only way to really know is buy from stations that sell non-ethanol fuel.
Yeah the one in my town charges extra for non ethanol, plus a 5 cent per gallon surcharge if you don't pay with folding money.

LAME

Thats all I use in my vehicles, 4 wheelers , lawn mores, and yes my sled. My sled I will put in it what the regulare most of the time but if i cant it doesnt bother me to run ethenal. Get used to it my bet is it is here to stay. For the people that think that food goes up the more corn that gets used for ethenol, there half right. Alot of the reason food goes up is beacause of the deisel prices that go up. How do you think the food gets the stores? Magic? If the price of deisel goes up the truckers charge more trucking it to the stores, so then in turn the store charges more for the food to try to recoop the extra cost of the trucking. Im not saying it is the aswer for everything or anything but it isnt the only reason for the cost of food going up.

I also use it in everything but my sled. We can buy non ethanol 87 and 91 and Ethanol E10 and E85 at most gas stations here in south dakota.

Start putting pressure on your Representatives and Senators, they are the ones to blame for this mess. If we can get them to pull the all of the funding for the Ethanol subsidies, Ethanol will the die the death that would have under normal market circumstances.

We the tax payers should not be the ones to float this entire industry. If Ethanol fuel is the wondrous product that it is billed to be, then it should be able to make a go of it in the market without tax payer help.

Ya know the funy thing that I thin about when I here this debate is everyone says get rid of this or that and it is so bad but no one ever has a better idea. Or new ideas on how to improve anything.

I use ethanol in everything including my sleds. I go to the bighorns full of ethanol. I do not see a serious reduction in power. In fact every time I come back with mountain fuel I have to change plugs. Ethanol does not drive up the cost of food like the press would have you believe. We do not eat that much yellow corn. The process of making ethanol leaves a cattle feed that produces gains comparable. The one fact people forget is we raise more corn than this country uses.

I run it (E-10) in everything I own.

Some people think raising crops for uses other than food is reletively new.
Hell, we've been doing it for decades. Flax, Sunflowers etc.

To say ethanol causes higher food prices would be equal to saying peeing in the lake warms it up.
The effect is virtually nil.

Whining about the subsidies?
That's laughable. I don't hear you crying about paying farmers to NOT farm land.

Lastly, I would much rather see a portion of the money we spend on fuel go towards employing local people & supporting our farmers & local investors than seeing all of it go towards the sandfleas of the middle east.
Maybe I'm just weird that way.

One more thing, it is superior in cleanliness to gasoline.

I've read these rants before & every time it's obvious that it is driven by total misunderstanding of the industry.

I'm not saying corn based ethanol is the end all. But it is a curent viable option & a leaning source for future renewable fuels.
This industry is still in it's infancy.

Ethanol is dead !

I don't think this could be farther from the truth.

American Coalition for Ethanol is the nation’s largest ethanol advocacy organization, with nearly 1500 members nationwide who collectively represent nearly 1 million grassroots employees and individuals.

A month ago the American Coalition for Ethanol published a letter on their website on the subject of their disappointment that the EPA did not announce on Dec 1, 2009 that E15 has been approved for 2010 mid-year vehicles.

furthermore:
“It is ACE’s strong contention that E15 should not be the highest and final mid-level blend of ethanol permitted to be used in the motor fuel supply,” ACE stated. “Ultimately we need to provide a range of choices for consumers. Lurching from the E10 blend wall to the E15 blend wall to the next blend wall is unintelligent and unsustainable. Instead, ACE advocates for consumers to be able to use E10, E15, E20, E30, E85 or ‘ethanol-free’ gasoline, and we believe that when consumers are finally given these meaningful choices through blender pumps, they will select the fuel that works best in their vehicles.”

Although the organization does advocate consumer choice including non blended fuel, it does not mean that it will be available to you in your market.

Take a look at the website there is a lot of information there.

Someone on Dootalk had an interesting theory involving Skidoo carb boots, he claimed that the delamination of the carb boots is caused by ethanol working from the inside of the boots. I cannot say if this could be true or not but I have never used ethanol in any of our 6 sleds and so far have not had any problems with carb boots either.

I'm pretty sure ethanol is the reason for 8 turbo burn downs in one weekend in McCall. Guys running exact same #'s as last year, and burn down this year, kinda odd if you ask me.
