Etec turbo kits. What worked this season?

Reeds are an issue on all etechs. they were not made to run dry.

for every 1000 miles here in the northeast it takes a complete set of reeds to bring the sleds power and starting back to like new.

NOW the turbo etechs dont even make a 100 mile trip out here. In fact just 3 runs on the dyno and the reeds are junk. Hard to justify a day of dyno tuning when you spend half of the time or more changing petals.

If the tss boys are keeping reeds in them for a more than a day they are way ahead of everyone else...

to date Ive swapped out 8 sets of reeds on STOCK 11-12 e torchs..most guys notice the starting gets hard first. some see the revs drop when warmed up and then come back when cold..For the e tech system to work trouble free rotax should go back the the disc valve.

I don't want to get anyone in trouble so I have to leave names out of this. My buddy(a dealer) ran an Aerocharger kit this year. Was checking them out to see if they wanted to sell them. He had CONTINUOUS problems with reeds. Aerocharger never sent him reeds that would last more than 300 miles. The sled didn't run clean on the bottom. I would love to run an ETEC turbo system but until I personally see one run as clean as stock I won't be buying one. If a dealer can't get it to run right what chance do I have. BTW, these guys are great, best customer service I can find.

Matte,

We have a minimum of 3 sleds over 800 miles, no reed issues. Did we change to a different company set of reeds? Yes.
1 customer spent 10 days in Revy, and another 7 somewhere in Colorado, riding every day. It was nice to get the calls from him, letting us know how good his sled ran with no issues.
Sometimes you just have to move outside the box.
We will be offering turbo specific clutch kits for next year as well. A lot of the product we began developing 3 years ago was in anticipation of this.
The stock type clutching appeared to aggravate some of these issues you have described.
It is hard not to ride a turbo that addresses your complaints above though. Getting back on even a nice running stock sled feels like a spark plug wire is missing!!!

I was told that they have a solution to release the pressure in the crank case to extend reed valve life? does that make sense to you the pros, I don't know, I'm listening and reading to learn more before I doo the big step to turbo ETEC

Hey guys,

There has been a lot of talk about reeds and we have tried just about everything. We do have a working solution for the reeds which we have posted on SW before as well as being told to every customer who buys a kit.

We are using a multi-layer reed using stock Ski-Doo reeds. We have mountain customers who have put 1000 miles on these setups without even chipping a corner.

We are also continuing to test new reeds and new designs to find an even better solution.

for me its a toss up between tss and turbo performance, I like the tss airbox, but with what i save on the TP kit i would build my own anyways (which is more fun for me)

I'm pretty much sold! What skid are you running on that sled? Also what are you running for fuel and boost #'s?

I ran the stock skid until I learned my lesson the hard way (I tumbled from the top of the Gash twice, attempted it a total 4 times at Yamafest). I now run the EZ Ryde.
I ran 9lbs boost all year except for the big chutes I cranked it to 10-11 lbs. Av gas only!

Boost

Are you sure my freind being from out east are you sure it wasnt 15 to twenty lbs just kidding Frenchie...HA HA:rockon:

Oups, now that means I should get the EZ Ride with my TSS kit?

It's your call- in those crucial moments do you want the sled to ride you instead of you riding the sled?

Well maybe the boost gauge spikes in that range now and then but not that much hehehe :face-icon-small-dis

Thanks for the vid. Holy cow that thing runs nice. Definitely different than the boondocker etec I rode!

Are you sure that is an XP though? I read on the internet that you cant sidehill an XP.........yet I seen a lot of sidehilling in that video???:face-icon-small-ton

Sorry I missed some responses on this thread. Andrew the dealer was running your kit. It NEVER ran well. First time I road with that sled it died 2 miles from the truck. Reeds where so bad it wouldn't run well enough to ride at all. It sat for 6 weeks right in the prime of the season because "we can't get reeds from Aerocharger that will last". That was after at least 2 sets of reeds failed very quickly, like a couple of rides. I never even got a chance to ride the sled because of this. They said they got Boyesen Turbo reeds at the end of the season but I never saw it run. Now it is sold and not sure if they are going to mess with them next year. I NEED a dealer to install/tune a turbo if I am going to own one. I haven't found anyone local to the Seattle area who is a wizard with turbos but I am fairly new to sledding. I am not trying to bash your kit or bad mouth you but this was my personal experience last winter. It didn't burn down or anything catastrophic just wasn't reliable or run clean.
