Eratic speedometer

What would cause my speedometer reading to bounce all over the place? Cruising along at around 30mph , it would jump and read 80mph, then 10, then 30, etc.

Was actually pretty impressed when it said I hit 134mph. Haha.

Wire from the sensor may have rubbed through somewhere and is intermittently grounding. Happened to me, same symptoms.

Is that the small cable that goes into a sort of cup behind the secondary?

You didn't say what year you have but on my 13 & 15 the speedo reads off the holes in the brake rotor. The sensor is on the back side.

If your sled has the cable driven speedo - cable goes to the cup behind the secondary - take the cup off and check the bearing on the drive shaft end. Many times when the speedo goes wacky its cause the bearing is going out.

Replace your speedo pickup. Works off the holes in the brake disk on the RMK. Not sure on your model.

you have a sensor in the cup behind the sec. clutch on the SBA reading splines on the driveshaft!

wires short, bad sensor or grease from bad bearing in splines is where i'd start looking..
