Epic Snow and Epic Fail

haven't heard what they are claiming to be the cause for the failure yet. the polaris adjuster is coming out tomorrow to look at it. parts should be in today. it will be interesting to hear what they say caused the problem. no i didn't turn up the oil pump or add oil to the tank. however, i have checked my ratio a number of times. on my wfo days (like in the video) i'm right around 40:1 when i have to spend more time on the trail or the snow isn't as deep i have seen the ratio as high as 55:1. personally i feel this is on the limit of acceptable oil usage. i would rather see right at 32:1 on the heavy days, and no more than around 45:1 on the easier/trail days. i had intended to turn up my pump some but was just lazy since the ratios were close to acceptable. would it have made a difference? who knows, no way to tell. but it sure wouldn't have hurt anything... as i said before i have a great dealer so i'm going to go in and ask them to put a couple turns on the pump since they will have it torn down. hopefully get that overall ratio down a little bit. my only concern, although at this point it is not a very big one, is the adjuster will try to deny my warranty claim b/c of the slp intake or powair, or vents, or removed foam, etc. guess i'll find out tomorrow....

Let us know on the warranty issue. Good luck!

I would die for a day of riding like that even if the sled croaked.

yeah i'm aware of it. but i have a good dealer so not going to worry about it until it becomes an issue. plus as i understand it, the burden of proof falls on the consumer.

thanks for all the comments. it was a pretty good day. i know it probably isn't very nice post snow like that with the winter you guys are having down south but what can i say, except if you think that looks good you should have seen it on tuesday before the snow setup... :)

you would be surprised how much my couch rents for...

update: it was not a connecting rod bearing that failed as i assumed earlier. went over to the dealer today to check it out and i broke a cylinder skirt. took out the crank, piston, obviously the cylinder and went through the the case. the adjuster should be out tomorrow to hopefully approve the repairs and then i will be back on the snow. no idea what would cause the cylinder to break a skirt?

Last month a person in our club was told by a Polaris dealer (owner) that the cylinder skirts are breaking around 1500 miles. I sure the hell hope not!:face-icon-small-sad
Somebody tell me it's not true.

update: the inspector showed up yesterday afternoon and gave the green light on the warranty. dealer started to put it back together, tried very hard to get it running before they closed but didn't quite make it. props for HPP for all of their efforts on this. i did get to ride a new etec yesterday in some killer snow (see other thread). really impressive power but the gas millage sucks. anyway, should have my pro back on tuesday with a brand new motor!
