Engine installation order

Guys,

Doing my first complete engine install and need some advice. Is it better to but the pistons, cylinders, and head on before dropping the engine in or drop the engine in and then put the pistons, cylinders and head on?

Bought the 900 with the engine out, cylinders and pistons off and primary clutch and stator on. Have replaced cylinders, pistons, clutches, and throttle bodies in the past but never had the engine out. Was thinking it might be easier to connect the main water inlet hose with the cylinders off but then realize might be a tight fit to tighten the cylinder and head bolts (the ones in the back) once the engine is in.

Any other advice or tips would be great.

i think its easier to put the motor together completely, then install motor into chassis. i would think getting the piston clips put on while it was sitting in the sled would be kinda a pain in the a$&. just my 2cents, others may have done it the other way and thought it was easy.

I stuck the pistons, cylinders and head on while the engine was partially in the chassis. I had one bolt in each side of the front crossmember and tipped the engine forward till it was level and put block under the back. It worked well because it held the engine in place. Make sure you cover the holes in the engine with clean rags in case you drop anything.

There is a connection on the bottom of the engine on the clutch side toward the back. The connection is made via a bolt into the engine block which is connected to some sort of adjuster and the other side of the adjuster looks like it is connects to chasis (Almost under the clutch). I do not see it on any of the diagrams? Am I making sense?

that is an aftermarket slp torque arm, that helps keep the clutches aligned.

How important is the aftermarket SLP clutch alignment part? Does it need to go back on? May be hard to reach?
You have to connect it BEFORE you put the clutch on. And you have to have the clutch off before you can remove the motor. Cause you have to disconnect the torque arm.
