Electric starter not engaging.

Hello.
I got a 06 swb nine that has a e-starter that wont engage and crank the engine for most of the time, when it wont engage/pop the shaft out it kind of whines and is spinning the sprocket really slow for anything between a quarter turn to a couple of revs(and then, sometimes, all of a sudden it engages perfectly one time or a couple of times at most).

Is the starter fried or is there something else that you guys think i should look for?
Wont engage even is the solenoid is bypassed

Battery is new and in good condition, hooked it up and started my bike without problem.

Sounds like the starter. There was a Team tip that addressed this issue. The Team tip was installing a longer jam bolt and nut in the end of the starter to set the end play. The part # for the jam bolt is 7518809 and the part # for the nut is 7542432. The Team tip # is S-07-03-03 You can have your dealer look it up on the dealer website if needed.

i thought so :face-icon-small-sad
i have to pull the engine to get the starter out right?
well i guess it will stay put as ballast :face-icon-small-ton

Pretty sure you can get it out by tipping the engine forward in the chassis.
You have to remove the primary to do it though.

I had an e-start on for a few months a few years ago. Didn't last long on there. It had the team tip update also and anything below -25c it would still not pop out due to the cold. Only way was to get some heat under the hood for a while. Mind you do not have a garage and it is always stored outside. And also the starter didn't have any juice to crank it over anyways anything below -20c so was a $700 paperweight for me so off it came.

You can get the starter off by leaving one bolt, same position on each side from the front mounts on the x-member, take the rear mounts off and tilt it forward a bit till the starter comes out. And as Z-man said primary has to come off.

Sounds like it might just make a good excuse to pull the motor and check those mounts while your dealing with the starter. Just my opinion, sounds like it is going to be a pain either way.

thanks for your help guys, i think that i will remove the starter if i have the time to do so.
And i had the engine semi out last year to fix a seize and checked the mounts then...but was so anxious to get it going so i left the starter on that time :face-icon-small-dis
