elan primary

can anyone tell me is the primary on an old 70's elan a tapered fit ? or will they simply come off by removing the retainer bolt, havn't tried to remove it yet thanx....:beer;

what year? some old fan cooled 'doos had a square shaft on the fixed half, and were threaded onto the crank. I've had to cut them off with an acetylene torch before and order new fixed half. many moons ago.....

Most of the early 70's fan cooled have a round shaft that was treaded on. If it has a hole through the side of the shaft you insert a punch and tap it with a hamer counter clockwise. A rope in the cylinder will keep the motor from truning over. Also a shot of PB Blaster through the bolt hole and on the back helps alot.

its a 72 294 twin from a ss elan, the motor was shot so i swapped in a 250 twin from a 76, was just lookin to keep the primary for a spare. my 10 yr old son thinks its a real powerhouse...:D:beer;
