EGT vs A/F

Yep egt and would run both if money didn't matter. will be running both if I commit to a turbo.

seams that A/F is all over the board till you have it WOT. A/F sensor is after turbo , Egt Is @ Y pipe, just looking for some feed back.

I'm really happy with my AEM A/F gauge. Doesn't seem to jump around too much. I guess it would be nice to have both but with a good A/F gauge I don't think it's necessary. There are so many variables that affect EGT I don't think they are a sure thing. I tuned my turbo M8 with A/F for the last half of the season last year and had no problems at all.

i ran both for a year and it seemed the afr and egt didnt jive. Now was it the egt that was jacked or the afr? If the afr was 12.5 then the Egt would read 1300 + . Bring the afr down to 11.8-12.0 and the egts were in the 1150-1200 range.(I think the oil in the fuel has that effect) This all agrees with the data I have seen over the last 25 years in the boosted automotive world.....BOOST LOVES FUEL!!!! Of course the fuel used makes a difference but you understand the concept. Different fuels will create different results but the premise remains. Over fueling under boost in most cases is better.

Egts on NA sleds, A/F on turbo's or both on either. Egts can get fooled because it reads temp of burnt fuel and there location is important, Sometimes if a sled is pre detonating it can actually read cooler because the heat is absorbed in the motor, the power valves can also throw both gauges off like crazy. You just have to be savy enough to get a general idea and run with it, but the only kinda true reading you get out of either is at WOT, all in all I watch my gauges to maintain safe levels but I fine tune by the feal, hearing, and how it pulls.

I have also heard that everything can be good to go but if for some reason the coolant temp raises to a certain point it can sqeak a piston just from expansion no matter what the gauges say??? I really don't know, anyone else ever hear that.

I run a AEM and it can be all over the board at times. Thats why I was gonna throw my EGTS on. Thanx for the input guys. Gauges + seat o the pants, sounds like the consenses. On an 08 where are you guys getting good power for the A/F? Seams like it likes alot of juice

I have heard of people putting a toggle switch on the A/F gauges and when they get screwy numbers the shut it off and turn it back on to reset it, heard it works well then

EGT's

AR s work but I do not prefer them EGT'S are consistent and 02 on 2 stroke not a real fan.

toggle works great...i have koso egt and koso a/f...they seem to work well hand in hand...if i was stuck with only one it would be the egts that i would want to keep

make sure your AEM is wired to good DC power. If it is wired to the AC port on a 2009 or new Cat it will actually power the gauge but will not work correctly.

As for putting a switch in the circuit it is not needed with an AEM gauge.

The Koso unit does not work correctly with the Arctic Cat electrical system. According to our KOSO distributor they are working on new electronics to correct the problem

ive learned in the past its pretty simple rule of thumb, if your af is reading at lets say 12.5 them is very safe to say your egts are 1250 degrees, if your at 11.5 your very close to 1150 degrees etc, the af guage is very quick to react to different fueling which in my opinion makes it a better tuning tool.
