People hate to say because they do not want to be responsible for you having a problem.
If your probes are in the exact correct location and your gauge is reading properly, meaning the correct temp at the correct distance from the head I would not want mine to read over 1200.
You can get false readings by running so much fuel that the fuel is burning after it leaves the head, you can get false readings by not placing the probe in the exact correct location.
One thing you can do is check the plugs while you are dialing it in. If your reading is right but your plugs say other wise go with the plugs.
Find a EGT reading that it runs great at and the plugs look good at and then set a base line from there.
I always wanted my fuel set so that at Wide Open Throttle my temps actually went down a little so I could make long pulls without worrying.
