EGT or AFR

If I do end up running the egt gauges I will let you know the comparative readings. I'm not back in country until dec 18 at the earliest though. Having read peoples different experiences and how the temps can differ from sled to sled and probe placement is a big factor. I measured twice so I hope my probe placement is good and temps are spot on.

where did you place your probes? 2" in on the y-pipe?

egt's

Thank you. I was just wondering how the egts would look with correct afr on a two stroke. I use afr to tune my street/drag bikes, but have only used egt on my two stroke snowmobiles. I tune to 1300 on my turbo xp. I would think the egts would be alot lower then 1300 with a 12.2-12.4 a/f ratio, but just guessing as I have never ran egts and a/f at the same time.[/QUOTE

There seems there two types of riders. Those who like to play it safe and those that like to push the limit once in a while.. I would consider myself to be the latter and so I run both the AFR and EGTs and can tell you that the egts' can change a great deal based on the amount of boost you are running, altitude, fuel, etc. On my Cutler stage III my temps will run between 1175 and 1225 at 10psi with the afr at 12.5. But (my sled) runs best when the afr is closer to 13.5 and when temps climb to the 1275 range.

EGTs are great for mid range and LONG pull protection and at WOT there is nothing easier to look at than the AFR. Once I see that things are dialed in at the first of the day I rarely look at my guages unless the throttle has been pinned for rediculous amount of time and/ or to re-tune after I have added 4-5lbs of boost.
