Who has it and what other mods do you got? im planning on getting efi and adding a fuel system, is this a bad or good idea and willl i run into problems with the injectors? i plan on doing tranny work also. now my truck is dpf delete with the edge cs and cold air, straight pipe. i like it alot just the dam EGT's are out of control.
 
I am running this on my 09 duramax. I have a 5 position setting with 95hp,70hp,45hp,tow with turbo brake, stock tune. MBRP 4" exhaust and modified stock air box. Mitch from xtremefxtuning.com wrote the tune. Really happy with it so far. Went from 11mpg mixed driving to 18mpg mixed. Hoping it will get better in the summer.
 
It works great with lots of mods and for stock truck also. Who do you plan on doing the tunes for you. That is the biggest difference on efi live is who is tuning it for you but if its a stock motor and turbo I am sure it will be fine. Do you plan a getting the 5 position switch, 2 position switch or are you buying V2 with some tunes in it. I have it on both my duramax's
 
I plan on getting the five position switch. I have been looking into three dealers in the salt lake area not sure there names but one is called parleys diesel and another is gm truck center or something like that. Does any one have any input on these dealers or where to go.
 
EFI Live is hands down the best tuning for your DMAX. I had PPE before anf EFI blows it out of the water! Just be careful on your bigger tunes if you get a DSP5, limping the trans will come sooner than you think due to the fact they drive like a sports car with EFI in em'. Just find a good reputable tuner and you will be in good hands, ask as many questions as needed.

Are you getting a pretuned ECM, or V2?

I like Idaho Rob or Duramax Tuner, BUT there are alot of great tuners out there.
 
most guys kick themselves because they dont get the v2. it is so nice to have all that capability(not that i use it). if you plan on doing the trans build anytime soon(less than a few months), i would just get tunes for a built trans, and leave it on the lowest setting so you dont have to waste cash to later upgrade your tunes.

I would also look into doing a turbo downpipe and EGR delete/block, it made a huge difference in my temps and they way my truck spooled
 
If your in the SLC area precision in North SL does a good job and H & S Performance is St George is amazing from what I've heard but never delt with them myself. Lets see some pics of the truck.
 
Egr delete I've looked and i only found that little plate, is that what you got or did u get rid of it all? Also what brand of turn down pipe did u get?

the little plate is just an EGR blocker, it keeps the egr system intact, but not functional.

I did the delete which takes all that junk off my truck completely.
My downpipe is also from Profab.

I have EFI live, but on my gas truck, but i have tuned a couple buddies duramax's.

Duramax 1: 4" Straight Pipe, Injectors, FASS Fuel System, Cold Air Intake, no Emissions
Duramax 2: 4" Straight Pipe, CP3 Pump, Cold Air Intake, No Emissions

You will not run into problems on injectors, unless you go crazy with your tune. Same with the tranny, you only have yourself to blame by making your tune that heavy.

You control your EGT's with your tune, but you always have to keep an eye out.


whats the price tag on efi?
Depends if you want to get the entire program, or just have the tune done, and where you get it. Do a couple google searches for the best prices, remember you get what you pay for.
 
My buddy here in Montana went to a week training on it and has been tuning pickups left and right. We set one up with pump tuning and stock injectors. In the future the guy is gonna go crazy with tuning and he plans on a big Turbo and injectors. For now that thing flat out rips and makes me want a duramax. I better not say that out loud cuz my Dodge might not start in the morning.

i had an lb7 with built tranny, snow perf. meth injection, ppe lift pump, cold air intake and rob coddens max effort tune, was supposed to be good for around 500-550 rwhp
 
Anyone on here use the Spade EFI tuner from Duramaxtuner or the Autocal that has Rob's EFI tunes?
They appear to be simple to use and easy to install an EFI tune.
I currently have the Hypertech and not very impressed with it. Get what you pay for I guess!

i had a guy in the states send me a replacement ecm with a efi tune for $450
now i just switch out for warranty and i love the added power/economy
 
Trent Nell is in Utah. He has a 9 second duramax that he built and tunes himself. I know he offers a bunch of help on DuramaxDiesels.com to people that have never bought a single thing from him. It's also nice having a local guy to help you with questions or adjust your tuning when you make changes or have issues.

Idaho rob is one of the more well known guys tuning with efi live. He, like other tuners will either send you a pre programmed ECM or you buy the efi live hardware and he emails you the tune and you download it into the truck. I have had numerous tuners build tunes for my truck and Trent Nell (extreme prejudice racing) out of salt lake had the truck the closest to where I wanted it the fastest. As well as making big power. I'd stay away from duramaxtuner.com unless you're never going beyond a stock turbo truck.
