Edge Chassis Questions

Hey all you Polaris guys. I have a really stupid newbie (to Polaris) question. How do the Edge chassis's handle? I mean, I have heard that people who can ride them absolutely love them. I have also heard the exact opposite. Please enlighten me on strengths and weaknesses. I come from a strictly Arctic Cat background, so I have very little Polaris experience.

The reason I am asking is I am seriously considering buying one for a mod project. I love the way they look. Sorry if this is a stupid question that has been discussed before. Thanks guys!!

I have a 2000 EDGE chassis full mod for sale. It is in AK but is a sweet ride, I've been busy with a divorce and custody issues so it has been sitting in the garage for 8-10 years. I have about thirty grand into it and will sell for two or three grand, shipping is about a grand to get it to NV. It has a BB 800 triple with Crank Shop triple pipes. About 210 HP, Northern Lites aluminum front suspension, titanium jack shaft, magnesium chaincase, with billet wilwood caliper, aluminum / ceramic brake disc. Triple roller chain aluminum gears, Holz hollow chromoly drive shaft, finger track, lightened M-10, Jay Quinlan's BR tech freestyle hood, red tub with yellow accents. Currently has one gallon fuel cell and small billet oil tank, u cooler with integrated thermostat. Wahl Broz race minimum seat. ~400#'s wet! PM for more info. / pics

The don't handle as easy as the Dragon or Pro chassis, but I ride mine very well.

You can make some slight changes to the chassis like a taller steering post and such that make them handle very well in the deep snow.

Well I think if you research INDYDAN ... his posts will tell you lots about the edge chasis and the behavior of various year 800 cc engines.

If it is an unmodded 600 or 700 engine then they will last a long time.

I think they made an edge chassis and a IQ chassis for 2005 and then 2006

Then the IQ RAW chassis thru 2010 and of course the pro 2011 to present.

I think you are of course better off with a newer chassis.

So what are you trying to end up with the mod?

Climbing, weight, flickability, speed?

I want a sled that is light and can climb very well. I ride a lot of deep powder in the steep stuff. I like to have power there right now when I mash on the gas, not have to wait for the bottom end to spool up.

You cannot build a sled these days for what you can buy one for. If you are going to build one you have more money than sense (sorry really) Heck you can buy a good reliable newer M7-8-10 or 06-10 700 rmk that will smoke a built edge chassis for half as much and at the end of the day your body will thank you. Not being rude but i and many others have been there done that. My gal loved her 05 verticle edge 151 and it was a beautiful machine but i sold it she was pissed but bought this for 4500 and put 2010 and 2012 rmk under it and it has a six that is geared right for another grand thanks snowest classifieds all new parts. She was totally happy after one mile i actually stopped and asked her. So i have one of my dream machines for six grand as new i always wanted to build this, machine had 5 tanks of fuel ran through it and new parts 0 miles. fabbed the tunnel myself for under 500 bones. Runs out like a dream everywhere and when my gal lets me ride it i say ahhhhh! Again just giving you my two cents build a newer machine if you want performance and technology.

Don't be afraid of an edge chassis. They are a very stable and predictable ride. Depending on what mods you plan on, they are still a very competitive sled. As was already mentioned, some steering post changes go a long way, also a taller seat is a must. I like the handling of mine better than almost any IQ I have been on, but I'm a long way from stock.
