does anybody know why they are designed this way? Is it to make room for the steering post?

i noticed this for the very first time just this week while putting my 04 Edge together and then noticed again just this morning on fastlanes post selling the boyesen reeds......check out his photo and you'll see what I mean.

if you dont run the airbox do you still need the offset?
