Sled is a 02 700, 156" x 2" track, stock pipe, 20-42 gearing, with team tss98 secondary and red/black spring, rider weighs 125lbs and likes to boondock, elevation is 8500 and up. What is your suggestions on a team helix to run? Thanks

58.40.46 it also has a 58.38.46 on it. I would also step up to the black/purple spring.... this should give you great backshifting. At your elevation I would go with the 38 finish angle. Down around 2-4000 we run the 40.

I've got an 02 700 144 w/SLP single, 18/41 gears, 10-66 weights, almond spring and a TSS-98 with a 58/42-46 helix with black/red spring. I ride 0-4000 in Alaska. A friend gave me some 10-64 weights and a 62/40-46 helix. Would it be worthwhile to use these weights and helix or am I better off with what I have? I plan on putting on the black/purple spring.

I would try what your freind gave you. I would love to try that helix in my sleds. The 40 finish angle will be better for your 700 for sure. We run that in our 8's here. I just went to a 38 in my boys 700 since it was wanting to pull down the r's on real steep climbs. The 64's should work well for you as well. What are you seeing for rpm right now with the 66's? I can't imaging that you can get over 7800 with them. I live in Soldotna ride mostly Lost Lake and areas around it. Deffintely go with the black/purple as well. you will like that in the steep and the deep.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I am only seeing about 7600 on long pulls. I'll give the 10-64 weights a try. Should I keep the almond spring? I was also considering the polaris black/green primary spring with the 120-340 rate. That would give me a slightly lower engagement speed and maybe a few more RPMs on top.

I'll let you know how the 62/40-46 helix works out.

ps. hard to beat Lost Lake on a good day..:face-icon-small-ton

I run slp springs in my primarys. I like the green/pinks. They engage alittle higher, yet don't just slam in like alot of high engaging engines do. Even tough they engage high, you can still really feather your take off so you don't trench when needed. This really wakes up the bottomend. The 64's should give you your r's back. The 800's pull 66's. My boy rides a 7, and the wife and I both ride 800's. All are currently running twins, but did all have slp singles at one time. I also help setup sevral freinds sleds both 7's and 8's. Let me know how that 62/40 works for you. I would love to try one. Once again, by going to the 62, I am thinking that you really want to put that slp green/pink in the primary to help pull that angle. It should rip set up like that. Make sure to put delrin washer in your secondary while you have it open if there are not aready some in there.

I mentioned previously I had 18/41 gears. Actually I was in the process of installing 18/41 gears. So as not to lead anyone astray, don't try the 18/41 gears because I found the combination does not work. A 72p chain is too small and a 74p is too big. I was trying to get the same gear ratio as 19/43 (2.26:1) with the 18/41 (2.27:1) gears. So now I'll have to hunt me down a 43T gear to go with my original 19T top.

Thanks for the recommendation Ultra. The 62/40 helix with the black/purple feels like it won't give up on the hills. I ended up going down to 62's to get the RPM's up in the 8100-8200 range. The green/pink primary has a great light feel to it on the bottom end.

Now with my gearing and clutching all set the last thing I did was take off the boost bottle (waste of money). I also sent my perc CDI in to PRO-5 Racing to get reprogrammed for a 14 degree flywheel. These two changes made my engine idle a lot smoother and gave it a totally different kind of crackly sound like a more radically piped engine than it is. That was one of the best things I've done. This old 700 feels like a sports car now.

Now to burn as much gas as I can before the snow melts....

Glad I could help. I have played with quit a few of these sleds. It didn't suprise me that you ended up with 62's. Since this thread started, I went to a a 62/42 in my mod 800. I love what that helix did to mine. Main thing is quicker track speed. Gets out of the hole and on step quicker. Pulls harder off the line. Yes, I really like that green/pink primary. For such a high engagment, you can really feather into it when you want to or need to. Best of both worlds. Time to pack it all up for Arctican, and then Valdez. Gonna be a fun two weeks :face-icon-small-hap
