earplugs or repack silencer? how to...

any ideas about repacking the silencer on a 503.i think its about time since its an 02'!!!

I called PSI and asked for a repack kit, I was told all they use is "Typical Home Insulation" and so should I, but that was for my Arctic Cat......

cut the can...

well i cut the end of the silencer off and see all the packing was burned away on one end. i just re-wrapped the center section and will have to weld it back together. the inlet is in the center and the outlet is offset so all the packing on the narrow side was gone and the center baffle was rattling around...should be good when i weld it back together again...

My 2002/03 Hawk 503 is really loud. Louder than stock 600 sleds. Do you guys think I need to repack my exhaust or just leave it loud>? Will repacking really quiet it down much>? Thanks~!

Fan fare.

Listen to your machine, the fan is a big part of it's sound.

In an older Summit or Formula it is muffled under the hood.

Expansion chamber could be wrapped with header wrap, keep it dry though, rustout!

Look at a newer Ski-Doo pipe, even a Matec exhaust system on a 06' or newer Hawk, same Co. that makes the Doo they have an aluminium sound absorbing shell.

wrapping it helps

i have a double layer of wrap on mine. my 02 had about 25% packing left when i redid it last year...if your hawk quits running well, check to see if the packing is plugging the outlet!!!
