Duramax vs. Powerstroke. Diesel Power

Did anybody else read the comparison that was in the latest issue of Diesel Power, or on Pickup Trucks.com?
Wow! I expected that to be a much closer comparo, but that chevy beat the ford down hard.
I am a cummins guy, but if i was trying to decide between these two trucks right now, i don't think i could walk away from the chevy. I don't understand how Ford can claim those kind of numbers, and then fall that short. Says in the article they declined to offer a truck for testing. I think they knew what would happen.

Good gawd can you find something a little newer. This was done months and months ago and was put on by Gm. Who do you think was going to win?

.........and in next months segment, we just elected our first black president!

I'm surprised how much of a difference there was between the two. The Ford got destroyed in the tests they ran, IMHO.

Before someone jumps on my nuts, I'm not brand loyal. I own a wide variety of iron :)

It wasn't put on by GM. Good Gawd, read the article! J/K. No need to get your panties in a wad man. I don't know how much faster you wanted me to post this, i just got my Diesel Power mag in the mail yesterday. In both articles it states that Ford was asked to supply a truck and they declined. So GM bought both trucks. After getting their asses handed to them that bad, do you really believe that Ford would just let it go if they thought GM had rigged it somehow? I don't think so, not after all the BS hype. What do you think, GM pulled 1 injector out of the Ford to give it a handicap?
I am not a GM or a Ford fan. I'm just saying that with all the hype Ford gave this thing, you'd think it would be a little closer. I have not seen one comparison where the Ford has come out ahead. I think diesel powers words were "it wasn't even close."

If it wasnt put on by Gm why would they have bought both trucks?
Gm asked both Diesel Power and Pickup Trucks to come along and watch the testing.
Either way, if you watch any advertisement that Ford has put on they will show you "test's" done where they are top dog. Again are you going to believe it?
It has been proven that Fords new turbo is lacking at high altitude. Not producing enough CFM's. Wonder why the test was done at High Altitude? lol
Maybe this test hit the internet long before it hit paperback but it's been out for atleast a couple months.

The chevy is great. Just don't try pulling a trailer in a snow storm and have the truck go into limp mode with a air filter full of snow. That is a problem they have been having since the NBS came out and they have not fixed the issue. I should know, I drive one.

I don't care what brand you drive.
If you think your brand is far superior to the other 2, then you sir suffer from refookintardation.

wow, i still cant stop laughing
i might have a new quote for my sig line... thanks

Fords interior-cab is second to none, but since the end of the 7.3 they havent been close to GM or Dodge in the diesel motor game. IH is suckin hind teat.

Do yourself a favor, and go pick up a copy of diesel power. It didn't go down at all like you say it did. States right in the article that both Ford and Chevy were asked to provide a truck, and Ford declined. Their words not mine. They tested them there because they viewed it as the ultimate test of strength, and i agree. 7 miles of 7 percent grade ending at 11k feet elevation, and then turning around and coming back down to test the exhaust brake. Which the Ford failed miserably as well.
I didn't start this stating that i thought any one brand was superior. Just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on how it is that Ford can claim such big numbers, and then get worked over like they did.

I have not read any articles in magazines, but i will go off of MY experiences, NOT WHAT I WAS TOLD OR NOT BEING BIAS, my neighbor has a 2010 F-350 powerstroke, and within 1000km, he has a main engine seal leak, within 2000km, his truck went into the shop and had his turbo "cleaned", 3000km it's back in the shop with the same "turbo" problem, the dealership takes pictures and sends it off to ford, and they don't even know if they're going to honor the warranty.

A friend of mine has a 2004 Duramax with 480,000km on it, and the only thing that needed to be replaced was the injectors(under warranty i might add).

I strongly believe that the Duramax is the best buy for the money. I've gotten to test drive the 2011 GMC Sierra 2500hd LML Duramax at the Calgary Stampede this summer, and i will admit, that's the nicest truck i have ever been in, the interior is done to a high standard, no cheaping out like the F350 i had for a work truck. The new LML Duramax is also the quietest and the smoothest diesel in existence i believe.

The 2011 F-350 i had for a work truck for 2 months, started off nice, but within after 3,000km it started to show signs of wear, already. For a brand new truck, the transmission felt weak, when under a load it would stutter to shift the odd time, but all was fixed when you put it into manual mode. The steering wheel and dash is made of a cheap plastic rubber compound that was very unappealing to the touch, and to eyes.

Just putting my 2 cents in.

Yeah I'm sure Ford for their first on the new motor will have it totally maxed out! Kinda like when a proto-type first year sled is released "I hauls the mail" then production models hit the consumers and its like WTF is this.
Any manufacturer does it.

i can't believe people are just finding out that the powerstroke (03 up) sucks ***. PEOPLE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!

I just bought cummins again but after working on them all day every day i would pick the duramax for the best all around truck.

and bacon: mod your air box, block off the hole in the fender with some cardboard or whatever and drill some holes in the top of your cover. problem solved.

but this new ford motor (6.7L) seems to be doin a lot better than the 6.4L and the 6L so far. they tuned down the max hp 20% for now and are susposed to be stepping it up over the next few years to keep it competitive according to a diesel tech from ford i did a course with.

Do yourself a favor and do some research on your own.....

Read the very first frame the comes up with text. WE (meaning GM).....

I have owned all three and will continue to buy the truck that I feel is the best for my money. Unfortunately for GM, they built a great truck and put a cars interior in it.
Buy what you like.....Just be careful what you read.

Did the airbox mod and it still filled with snow in a blizzard. I put a AFE stage II intake on and will see if this solves the probem. Put a prefilter on the air filter too so the snow can't get in the filter like is used on turbo sleds.

What year Duramax are you having air box issues with? I have towed with my '05 up steep grades during heavy snowfall and never had an issue. Also, just out of curiosity, what are you using for filters?

I have a 09 f350 at work and as far as pulling it is fine(18,000lbs goose), but as soon as it starts its POS 'cleaning exhaust filter' (which seems to be @every 10 miles or halfway up any pass) the boost drops-fuel goes bye and the power is that of a small block. For that reason alone I HATE it!!

95,000 miles on my 05 duramax. only problems so far is both front wheel bearings at 75000 miles, and just did the rear axle seal. I look up how to do the repairs on dieselplace.com. both front wheel bearings were $400 with lifetime warranty. took about 5 hours to replace. the wheel bearings/hubs were updated on the 07.5 and supposed to be better. the 07.5 and up wheel bearings go on the older duramax's. the rear seal was about $30 and took 5 hours. 2 or 3 of that was cleaning up the rotor, caliper, break pads, parking break, sanding the rotors ,and pads so they work again etc...
Pretty happy with the truck. rides good, quite inside, good mpg, etc.. I got a few mods done to it. A new lml is not going to have any more power (stock lml), or get any better mpg.
I looked at getting a new lml, but man they are expensive. I only owe $11,000 on my 05 so I am going to keep it. look forward to having a truck paid off more then a new truck and alot of debt and payments again.
