Dumb question about handle bar position.

So I got a 2012 assault last spring and rode it mainly on trails twice last year and finally got to ride it for the first time this year this last weekend and noticed I was getting tired kinda quick, my buddy rode it for about 5 minutes and said it hurt his shoulders and felt like the bars were two far forward. I have the pro taper bars and see they are set at +1. Then the day after my shoulders are killing me. I pretty much only like to ride in the trees on steeper hills so fairly technical riding. I also am 6'-3" tall, just wondering what everyone's preference is, do I need to change things up or do I just need to suck it up and ride more?

I am your hieght and ride a '13 Pro with the handle bars in the +1 position. I did add 1" riser that made a huge difference. Rides like a dream, fits like a glove.

It is worth trying some other positions though, that is why they are there.

I'm 6' and run mine about +.5. Had some soreness last year and narrowed mine up about 1 1/4". Much better this year.

bar width has alot to do with shoulder soreness, not so much forward or back.

do an experiment with broom handle and some loaded grocery bags with a gallon of milk on each end. hold the broom about nipple high and start with hands wide and hold the broom for 5 seconds and you will feel the pain in your shoulders. work hands in until comfortable in shoulders (no pain). for most people its usually about shoulder width. Some people need to trim the bar width.

Im 6'4" and I ride in the +1 position, i prefer pro tapers trimmed down .5" on each side.

Just my .02

Just for fun tighten your rear track spring about 1 inch. easy to do and has a major effect.

On my old sled (a cat) my shoulder's would burn all the time. Since I picked up this 13 Pro, no shoulder pain. The cause was the riser was too high.

I have the block 2" riser on, and while I don't know the offset I slightly have the bars rolled back. I too am 6'3.

I am 6'2" and I have the bars @ 0 and it seems perfect for trail riding. Could maybe be a little forward off trail stuff but we haven't had much of that this year so far.

225 miles (through several trips) in the +1 position always a little sore and tired at the end of the day. Moved to the -.5 position rode 35 miles no shoulder pain sled was easier to handle and sidehilling was far easier. I felt like I had full control of the sled. I will keep it there. Had my wife ride it after the adjustment she felt it was far better in the negative position will be moving hers before next ride. I'm only 5'10 so not as tall but rode with a guy that is 6'8 and he was the one that suggested moving the bars back and he was riding in -1 position with 2 inch riser.

Not trying to hijack the bar position thread, but....
1" is a huge jump in adjustment on the rear end, start with 1/8' or 1/4" increments, or better yet start at the factory settings for your weight and go from there.

I'm 6' and I had mine at -.5, worked great with no fatigue for me.
