Dually Drawbacks???

I think the stability should only be factored in if you are towing a goose neck trailer. You said you have a 32ft enclosed so i will assume it is a goose neck. IMO the difference between a DRW and SRW is negligible on a bumper tow trailer. I agree with everyone that said that DRW is tricky to drive on rutted up roads too. Also worse in fresh snow too.

Its always been my opinion that if you are not towing loads that require a dually, don't get one.

Agreed, agreed, & agreed......I've driven duallies for 10 years now.Had a 96 gm and now a 2004 gm......Have to say if yer haulin, you need a dually.......feel out it's limitations and plan for them...I run studded snow tires on her in the winter and can honestly say that there are no limitations to where you can take it, just know how to take it there...(although I do recall a time when it was used as a dually corner jumper one day back in area 51)......sure love surfin those ruts though!...lol.....definatly gonna hate it in the parking lots but as said earlier, we need the exercise!

Safety is the biggest advantage, I'm sure we've all seen those overloaded half tons cruising down the hiway staring at the sky....lol.....

I don't know what years your looking at. Chevy droped from 10,000 to 8,200 or 8,500, on their rear axle on the newer ones. Just a heads up, if you plan on working it, and need dot, etc. numbers. My uncle has a 08 3500. He didn't plan on working it. His only regret is if he knew before, he would of bought a 4500 or 5500 for more axle rating.

Another pro dually here, but nobody mentioned rocks or small animals getting stuck between the duals.

lol I have torn animals in 2 with the duals, makes a heck of a mess when you hit a deer, haven't had to peel em out though. I carry a bar in the truck just for the rocks though.

Done Deal

It's a done deal. Pulled the trigger on a new (09) 3500LTZ Dually. Nice truck. Should do nicely pulling my ATC Trailer. We'll see how I like it. I purchased a "Bedrug" for the back that will serve as a light duty bed liner and the next step will be putting a school bus heater in the box with a topper, and a mattress setup and that will make the 12 hour drive from Cedar Rapids, IA to Laramie a bit more tolerable.

I agree with everything said....but what nobody has mentioned is that the dualys spread the weight out on the rear and really get worse traction in the slick stuff. In the spring and fall when you have to drive up the logging roads to unload, this is very apparent. I run with a guy with a Dodge 1ton dualy and a buddy with a GM 1ton dualy and in the slick cutline conditions, my 1/2 ton towing a 2 place trailer goes further than both of them with sleds on the deck.

I second that Dave. No denying the stability of them, but I've seen plenty of duallys spin out in the parking lot. Few years ago we were heading into Hope after a fresh dump and all the duallys spun out on the big hill on the way in, and all the SRW trucks made it up no problems.

Nice rig. My buddy just purchased a 1993 thomas school bus that has a good working heater in it. 60,000 btu, fan works good. located in marshalltown Iowa. If you didn't have one already.

I had an 01 crew shorty with a big lift anda hydraulic deck on it for sleds and quads. i now have a 03 crewcab dually longbox. it handles everything better, the sled deck more storage and extra fuel and sli[p tank. You are definitely heading the right way!
