Dual Monitors

Does anyone know what is needed to run dual monitors on your computer? We have one set up at work and I like it, don't really need it, but I like it and have a spare flatsceen monitor. I'm kinda computer dumb, so please be gentle!

Need a video card that supports it.

Assuming you're on a desktop, there's a few scenarios.
1. If you have an AGP video card, you can either replace the existing one with a new one that supports dual monitors right out of the box
2. Keep the existing AGP and add in another single-monitor PCI video card and set it up in display control panel
3. If you have an on-board video card, add either an AGP or PCI video card (I'd go AGP)

If you're on a laptop, most support dual-monitors when another display is plugged in. That's how

on both of my home computers(desktops), I run BFGtech 8800 series video cards..they are direct x 10 compatible and will easily run dual monitors with great pics....:beer;

Look at the back of your computer, look for the video card. If you see two dvi outputs or one dvi and one vga you are set, otherwise you will need to spend some money.

This should be step one.

What is the benefit of (2) monitors???

I use them at work all the time. If you are doing a lot of work with different files, or doing some programming and passing along references, it is really nice to have the program files open to make sure you are doing things correctly.

Comparing spreadsheets or pdf plots is nice with both screens as each will take the pdf.

I got dual 19", that means I am special.:p

At home I mostly use one, unless I am doing video editing or massive file migrations, reorganizations.

:devil:

So that yuo can have work stuff open on one and Snowest on the other...or at home so you can have snowest and naked ladies all at once:D

Bingo! I have dual 22" with an ergotron desk mount. Love it. great for said multi tasking

ohhhh Ergotron, those things are super pimp. I bought one for my mom to test out, and was amazed. She also liked it too.

It is on my list of stuff to get, though I need two of them....

They are money well spent! I'll have to post up pics soon as my office is done.

There you go again, trying to convince people that you have a job!! lol :D :beer;

Heck you could just do what a customer of mine did, had to go hook his setup up today. Dual 46" Sony Bravia's hung on his wall. Took a few hours but got it set up just the way he wants. Both can be monitors, or tv's on different stations, or one each. Pretty bad setup. Was watching some ESPN HD while getting his vpn setup completed now thats work :D

All you need is a USB port and one of these.

That'd work if you didn't care about color, resolution, or frame rate... not nearly enough bandwidth on USB to support good-quality video. Spend the $ and do it right... you won't regret it
