Lets say for comparison a typical 4 placed enclose 27FT? What are the approx dry weights. I have come across 3400-3700 for both allum and steel. I thought the aluminum where supposed to be a lot lighter?

I have a triton 27 foot trailer weights around 2500 with a furnace and tank empty we tried steel trailers out then went with triton because quality we felt was best. Loaded it feels like a steel trailer with 1 sled you can really feel weight difference when you slow or come to a stop going down hill less pushing force to use.

Mine is supposedly 4200 empty (29 foot Storm Trailer) but it has heavier axles more cross members and is built as a car hauler with the V nose. Boy howdy does it pull nice. We put 5 long tracks in it yesterday (155, 156, 159, 163, 163)and still had plenty of room for gear. reverse helps alot with loading

1000 lbs difference then? That is not bad extra 1k of gear to haul! They definitely cost more though.

You can't always trust the weights that manufacturers post on their websites or print in their brochures (this goes for more than trailer manufacturers). Manufacturers know that customers are very sensitive to the weight thing and will fudge a bit from time to time on what they print. If you really want to know how much a trailer weighs pull it across the scales.
