Drivers-Avids are octagon, Wahl bros are round. Why?

What is the reason for this? What works better?

On my 08 doo XP I replaced OEM 2.86 pitch drivers with Avid 3" pitch and they are much smoother running and shouldn't be because of smaller diameter with one tooth less. They are definitely different but they work awesome.

the explanation robby gave me was making them flat between helps the teeth sit better and grab with the whole tooth rather than just the tip as it comes around. julio

I believe Avids are also CNC'd, where the wahl's are molded...

clipped tracks, which most all mountain units are need a flat surface to ride on as a clip isnt round, so avids provide a mating surface that mates more smoothly with the stock track.

Many oem and the wahls work well with the r, that being said im not completely sure why the oem dont mold them with the flats.
