dragon seat mod

its cake man..

get the dragon seat post or the skinz post and peal back the seat cover on the back of your seat...pull out the rubber bumper plugs and put in some thick washers there in the "cup" the rubber was in, then run a bolt up through the seat post into the hole and put a locknut on the bolt and tighten it down...

then staple your seat cover back on, mount the seat post to your tunnel...and enjoy ;)

OR

Leave seat on and install Rivet Nuts in the existing hole, then just screw the bolt in.

Either way, its a easy, cheap mod to get the dragon style look

you bascially have to use the 05-06 seat/tank, or if you can find an 07 seat, it will have threaded inserts in the seat already for you to mount with no mods...and you can use the 07 tank on any of those seats as well, its about 4 inches shorter..

good luck

If its really that easy I'm going to pull the trigger for this also. The seat post is olny $50 so it's a cheap mod. Guido, you said the inserts are already on the seat plastic? What kind of staples did you use to put the seat cover back on? Did they hold it in place OK? Do I need to get a new tank rack once I make this mod?

its cake man, really...once you remove the back side of the seat cover..you will see what you need to do for the threaded insert of some kind..

the ONLY seat you can use that has the threaded insert from the factory is the 07 600/700 Dragon seat...so not worth buying the seat when you can use your stock 05/06 with some kind of inserts installed..

as for staples...i honestly just used my electric staple gun with standard 3/16 or so staples in it...just dont get ones too long or you can sit on the seat and the staple will poke you in the A$$, lol..

i have done 3 seats with this method and all have been great for 2 seasons..

as for the tank rack..its worth installing one, like the HOLZ or similar billet gas rack...it will cover the wiring for the taillight (with some washers under one side to level it since the tunnel has the kick up in it right there)...plus you can still carry a can with you if needed...

look at my sig for the 05 900 and 06 700, both ave seat post mod with billet gas racks installed...

good luck.

My seat has to come apart anyway. I looked at it today to see what else I would need to order besides the post and found a big tear in the seat. Wasn't there when I put it up. Kids were playing out back last weekend so now I'm a little suspicious of their high-jinks back there!!! :hurt:

Skinz makes a cover for our seats. I've never really researched much on them, but everything else they make out of fabric seems to hold up well.

IQ seat cover replacement

The Skinz Protective Gear (SPG) is highly recommended. I installed one and rode on it all season, it has a huge difference in the seat's grip and durability.

I had mine recovered, I added extra durable material along the seam by the tunnel for extra protection. Also had him put a little more foam to fill out the material from a few years of stretching.
The entire recovering only cost $125 and the seat looks brand new again :D

I'll have to find a place up here to do it. Or I might just change over to a SPG on it. I heard that they aren't as slippery when your butt/legs get iced up.
