dragon meltdown

I tell you what ,I am sick of these threads. Buy the efi tuner or vary your throttle position, or buy a trail sled. 08 D8 still rockin' and rollin', no update, slp exhaust, power addiction head, ATTITUDE box keepin her alive.:beer;:beer;

Don't get me wrong, I'm buying one. I just think it's stupid that the owner's manual needs to state "do not hold you throttle steady at xxxx rpms for any steady lenght of time for any reason or you risk meltdown..." That's basically what's going on here.

Does it seriously say that? Man that's pretty bad.

Who isn't? I have heard of a few 08's stock with a fuel controller and still rocking. Good to know it is possible. Not sure about others, but for my sled just varying the throttle will get me past the lean spot, but it doesn't fix the insanely rich top end. My sled will just bog on top unless I lean it out some in the midrange for a few seconds, then punch it. That's the only way it will rev out. Then after a few seconds of wot is bogs down again. It sounds about like an old carbed sled with cold temp jets in it when it's about 0. You can just hear how rich the thing is. Doesn't sound right anymore. lol Only a fuel controller can fix that. For me it's not an option to get one or not.

Maybe Polaris should extend our warranties for adding a fuel controller? :D You guys are completely right. I know some of us would hand our sleds back to Polaris in a heartbeat. Heck, I would just like to show a Polaris engineer all the time I've spent and what I've fixed that they didn't have right and what could be done better. I would like to take a micrometer and show them that their piston to cylinder clearance doesn't even meet their own spec when it leaves the factory floor. :confused: And sometimes we just need to vent and get out our frustrations. :p

In the end we have Dragon 800's. We can sit on our bums and pout about it or we can put our best foot forward and fix what they can't. EPA regulations or not, Polaris is having difficulty with the fuel map. Honestly, from what I've been reading I think the original 08 was the best map and I'm not giving it up. :face-icon-small-fro :p Regardless, sooner or later your warranty will expire. So, spend the money now and make a reliable sled. Even those with no running issues, I wouldn't hesitate to add a controller for piece of mind.

You know, through all of this I still have to give them some props. They seem to be standing behind the product and keep trying to get it right. :beer;However, it also tells me it probably wasn't ready for production in the first place.

I know there are some great running D8's out there. Mine was one of them. No stumble or hesitation, it just ripped. In the end I found other issues that were not motor related, but would have caused a failure none the less. :( If they focused more on tolerances and fit and finish I think their final product would end up being a lot more reliable. Take your time, don't cut corners, and above all do it right the first time. Think of how much money Polaris would have saved by doing this! :eek: Look at how much $$$$ they have spent since it's release in 08 on further testing, warranties, updates etc....all after the fact. Plus look at the negative effect on sales and resale as well as overall consumer opinion of the company.

When 9 sleds run great, but number 10 just has one issue after another. We have to wonder what is causing the variation. Some of the guys on here have been struggling with the same issues for 3 years now. At what point will Polaris finally step in and do the right thing for these guys? Heck, it would have probably be cheaper to hand some of them a new sled by now. :p

For such a short season and the amount of money we pay, it is never fun to have your pride and joy out of commission. I can truly relate to all of you having issues and I hope they are all fixed in manor that is timely and permanent. :beer;

Seems mine has had all the problems but I too struggle with putting time and money in a product after the fact! Do ok with the mechanical stuff but struggle with electrical and programs and with no one else I ride with having a Dragon it is hard to learn this alone! If not for a great dealer I would have bailed a long time ago it is down again now but he gave me a brand new one to ride until it is back up so a Big Thanks goes out to him! I really do like my machine but it is getting old but can't afford to ditch it and get a new one! So big dilema where to go with this next he did offer me a great deal on a new one so considering it!!! This forum is great by the way lots of great people and knowledge!

So.....PC-5 with stock exhaust, 2010 updates on 09 800 CFI vs. 09 800 CFI 2010 updates with SLP setup. It is my understanding that the SLP setup is within +- 1 HP of the stock exhaust with the PC-5.. SLP setup with PC-5 running the show shows no improvement.
