dragon meltdown

curious how many dragons going down after update?so far two from my dealer in okanogan county.maybe it is the person putting it together, just a thought!

Two from my dealer as well, mine being one of them. BUT. It's not because the motors are bad, if you ask me there are two causes making the new motor fail, either the owner kept the sled in the mid range lean spot to long, or the VR/ecm are shot, giving you a lean condition. The motors them selves are good. Mine failed because of a bad voltage regulator and ECM, the other guy was trail riding his the day before he noticed he had scoring. So me and my dealer both blame his failure on the lean mid range.

Yes like he said it was probably from the mid-range lean spot in the programming. The lastest update did not fix the lean spot in the programming, all it really did was lower the compression, basically, there is more to it, but read up on it. My dealer has told me that, so check with yours and see if they are trying to hide something from you. I do know this though, that if you buy a programmer, like Boondocker or Power Commander you can manually program your sled, which means you can fattin up the mid range among the lower and top end ranges. Making it of coarse run better. Besides that, that is the only fix I found through research, or have been told what the fix is. You make the call, buy a programmer or worry about the mid-range lean spot.

I have also heard, but can't be positive on, that there is another new flash coming out this week, but don't hold me on it, I haven't heard it from a reliable source yet.

hey andyxcap, as of this afternoon opie tells me there were 4 or 5 800 melt downs at our dealer. oh ya by the way 08 800 DRAGON 155 ALL STOCK NEW UPDATED MOTOR 4 SALE!!!!!

Mine was updated and the v.r. was checked by the dealer. I get it back and my AFR #'s are AFU. I flat out told them that it needed a new v.r. before the update. This is why it burned down in the first place, yet they say it is good, My wideband O2 tells a different story. W/O that guage, it would burn down in no time if ridden. I finally have them getting me a new v.r. and ECU for troubleshooting.

Put the new power commander V on tonight with todays update on it. Should know saterday if its going to blow!!!!! or be towed. Hope dragonass brings a tow rope. If not I got a match and the marshmallow

Yep the latest map sucks. My sled is hardly ride-able now. It was ok till now, but it's getting a lot worse. I have been planning on a PCV for a while already. Dealer has one coming that we are going to use my sled to be the test dummy for. If it fixes my run-ability issues I'll be buying one. And he will start keeping them on the shelf and recommending guys put one on. Around here about every 800 is having problems. He wants the problems gone as much as we do.

Polaris can put out as many new maps as they want, I'm not running it if I have PCV. Why would I want to? Pointless.

Vboost I have to agree with you on that one, simply put, I'm upset that Polaris can't give us all the correct map without having to go out and purchase an additional fuel controller such as the PC-5...

I have had better luck with this update than with the last ones! I burned down twice last winter and have yet to this year (knock-on-wood). I really try to stay away from the rpm range known to kill the dragon and just ride it as hard as possible!

Uhmm, the motors are bad if you can't hold them at any rpm for as long as you damn well please!! Am I crazy or what?? The PC5 seems to be the real "fix". Unfortunately you need to spend your own money on top of what you paid Poo for this, which is COMPLETELY EPA (whom I LOATH- a Jim Carrey Grinch quote) who is the benefactor to this cancer. Just wait, it WILL get worse. We can only hope our good pal Obama looses interest in the clean air act and something gives. Good luck with that!

P.S. I vote too!!!!

Thats not the fault of the motor it self though. Thats the fuel maps fault. The motor is ok now. The map is not. And yes it looks like a PC5 is the only fix. Yes it sucks but who really cares anymore? I dont. lets just get them running right. Everybody spends 400 On cans that do nothing but make noise and lose some weight you will never feel. Why cant they spend that much into something that helps? If it bothers you to have to spend to make it run right, then think about it this way. You buy it for the ten hp gain you get from it. Thats better than a pipe. For a lot less. O and it also makes it run better. If guys refuse to buy the PC5 cause they think polaris is supposed to make it run right for you, well enjoy your junk. Cause polaris will not fix it. They will try with new maps but with the epa in the way there is no way they can. In the mean time i will buy a PC5 and enjoy my good running dragon till it sells. No offence to you or anybody else intended.

well said..seems like some people would rather just complain and blow their sleds up instead of just spending 400 to make the sled rip.

Don't get me wrong, I'm buying one. I just think it's stupid that the owner's manual needs to state "do not hold you throttle steady at xxxx rpms for any steady lenght of time for any reason or you risk meltdown..." That's basically what's going on here.

My 09 Assault went down yesterday. SLP set up with SLP low elevation map in PC5. Went into DET mode on the top end. Ran strong to the top and fell off to 7200 and went down. My dealer was setting this up so I do not have exact info yet. VR/ECU tested ok prior to set up. Looking at the crank seal.....? Piston clearance is .006. A little much I think. Pistons getting sloppy on the top end and going into DET or could it be the crank seal? This unit has the 2010 update and the cylinders, as well as the pistons that came out looked good after 1000 miles. New factory cylinders and pistons on Monday or should I start looking aftermarket? Getting to the point where I don't give a chit. I want this thing running.
